My weirdy kitty

I have two rescue cats (not from the same litter), Stan and Bunty and they both get on very well. But while Stan is very friendly all the time, Bunty shrinks away from me during the day. I go to gently pet her and she dodges away. Anyone seeing me with her would think I spend my time shouting at her as she looks at me all wide-eyed and wary. She's five now and has always been like this. She doesn't mind Stan washing her though and quite often I find them curled up together.

But at night, Bunty is completely different! I put a blanket next to my pillow and Bunty will sneak in next to me, curl up and go to sleep. If I wake up and pet her she actually purrs. And before you say, it's the blanket, she does often sit and sleep on it during the day but if I pet her during the day she shrinks away from me!

I think she's got an identi-cat hidden in the attic. 'The Picture of Bunty Grey'. Grin Grin

We've got her double. She's a bitey beast during the day and extremely aloof. Once she's tucked up in DD's bed she's a snuggly purry beast who guards her sleeping human from the night monsters.

I've got a rescue like that. She'll wander around demanding attention then shrink away horrified when you reach a hand out to stroke her. Always sits at least 1.2 arms lengths away (but facing away, so she does trust us).

At night she'll demand games, petting and co-sleeping. Cats, eh?

It's so strange. I found her when she was a teeny kitten, trembling in the rain. Took her to my local vet for a checkup, then took her home. She could fit in the palm of my hand and I was worried about whether Stan (who was a year old at this point) might bully her. It was more the other way round! She dive bombed him!

Cats are weirdy beasties. I got Stan from a house where his owners had two dobermans and neither bothered Stan at all. But then frankly a direct hit from a cannon wouldn't bother Stan. NOTHING bothers Stan. Apart from the noise of a bin bag being shaken open. Grin

watch the cat whisperer aka 'my cat from hell' ch 38 on a morning
hes bloody brilliant with cats. he does a slow blink at them and if he can get them to do it back it shows they trust him or something like that

My cats hate me during the day I had no work today so I was home all day they refused to come near me didn't want food didn't want strokes toys anything! As soon as I picked the kids up from school it's a competition between them all to follow me and drive me mad!

It's like they got switched when I go to school

Saggingninja · 24/01/2019 14:16

Abbsis cats can be quite jealous can't they? Maybe yours are competing for mum's attention and they somehow see your children as giant ear free kittens?!

My cat hates me too. He sometimes forgets and has prolonged strokes than it's like a switch goes on and he buggers off, shaking his head in disgust. He Lurvves MrCat and sits adjacent to him - never on lap - and sleeps against him in bed. However, he seeks me out if and when shits scared and if can't find me, hides under my duvet. Bugger.

We have a cat like that, too. Completely timid and unsociable from 7.30 am to 10pm, at which point she becomes a pole dancer, writhing around on the floor and jumping onto DS's bed.
