Cat started weeing around the house

I have 2 cats. Both rescue cats, previously strays. Had them for about 3 years.

One cat is no trouble at all apart from being an occasional murderer of small feathery or furry things.

The other cat is more nervous - fine around the family, but doesn't like strangers. Not that we get many visitors.

She has started occasionally weeing around the house, on carpets and toys. Not just spraying - full bladder-emptying wees. She has a litter tray (covered, and still in the place it's always been) and access to a catflap which she does use. So it's not as if she is desperate and has no choice.

Can anyone suggest why she might have started doing this? And, more importantly, how I get her to stop?

Thanks

The first things to rule out are kidney problems or a UTI, so I would take her for a check-up.

Mine suddenly started doing this. Out of the blue she did a full wee on my bed - whilst I was in it Shock The next day she did a series of little wees around the house and I could see bits of blood in the wee.
The vet diagnosed feline cystitus, although I think she may have actually passed some kidney stones.
She had painkillers, cat soup food for extra liquid and I also got her the special food for urinary health and a cat suppliment to ease uti symptoms. She was ok again after a few days.
Has your cat had any other symptoms?

Take her to the vet. Cats don’t start suddenly peeing outside the box for no reason after three years as long as the box is clean and there have been no changes within the household.

There’s something stressing her out or she has a physical problem, either way you need to get her checked out.

No other symptoms and she doesn't seem distressed, but I will sort out a check up just in case. Do you need to take a urine sample like you do for humans? And if so, how?

It comes across as habit or a sudden inability to remember the rules more than anything.

One of mine started doing this and there's nothing wrong with her, she's just a little git.
I have a mad arrangement of bath mats and puppy pads in the corner of my living room.

So, we've been to the vet (it is only a mile away and they weren't busy this afternoon). The vet said there is no sign of anything physical. He thinks it is behavioural.

I am now equipped with a feliway plug-in in case it is stress related.

But I need to discover if there is something stressing her. Or whether she is just being a git.

Have your two had a disagreement or another cat has got inside and tinkle cat is feeling a bit more stressed than normal. Do they have separate trays.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/01/2019 15:23

Felliway didn't work for mine, she gets on with the others dame as always and has her own tray.
She just seems to like pissing in the corner, stupid fuzzy git.
Oddly she's my secret favourite!

Mine did this recently. Coincided with a new habit of sitting forlornly and staring out her catflap or any window when usually she spent most of her time outside. She seemed quite jumpy too. I think perhaps there's a new cat on the block. She seems to be calming down and tentatively going out again.
