I've just seen the cats found in cardboard boxes on FB and I'm crying tears of anger and upset. I don't know how you do it @thecatneuterer but thank you for being there for the ones that need it
Ollie is bemused why I'm clinging on to him and why his fur is wet Blush

I saw this yesterday.

Was weird because they all looked fairly healthy. Appeared fairly tame aswell. Hope they all find good homes.

Very odd.

Poor things they were all so gorgeous
I got some cat food off the wish list.

moonbells · 18/01/2019 14:20

Have been after a ginger for ages. I'd have a pair in a heartbeat - not for the first time do I wish I lived in CHAT's catchment! Will just have to send a care parcel in the meantime ;)

EachandEveryone · 18/01/2019 18:16

Aw, im worried about e black and white one now😔

thecatneuterer · 18/01/2019 19:16

Celia is filming something with the BBC right now. I can't believe the publicity this is getting. We deal with this sort of thing all the bloody time, and frequently much worse things, so quite why this has gone so viral is a mystery to me, and it's certainly not a slow news season. I think it must be the video that did it. Anyway, great publicity for CHAT.

Rudgie47 · 18/01/2019 19:27

Hope you get loadz o money for your rescue. I bet it was either the partner of the person who owned the cats or one of the neighbours or Prince Philip.

thecatneuterer · 18/01/2019 19:32

Yes my money is on a partner. Other possibilities are a landlord, after the tenant has been evicted, or the relatives of someone who has died. But in those cases the cats are normally just shoved out into the garden or street and the door closed on them (and you wouldn't believe how often it happens after someone has died - I always think the deceased should have left the house to a cat charity instead. Surely if they had suspected that would happen after their death they wouldn't have left the bastards their house ...)

Wolfiefan · 18/01/2019 19:52

I looked after an animal for an elderly person who couldn’t do it unaided. (Cinnamon Trust are awesome.) the person died. Their adult child called me and said their parent had died and would I take the pet? Sad

thecatneuterer · 18/01/2019 19:57

Apparently the BBC spent ages filming, did long interviews, got great footage, and then somehow lost the feed so it didn't go out ...

Rudgie47 · 18/01/2019 20:06

Some ignorant and thick types think that a housecat will be able to fend for itself if turfed out by catching rodents and birds etc!. They wont they will really struggle.

I think you will find out whos done that as someone will be appalled and tell you. The neighbours will know of households who have that many cats.It could be a hoarder whos gone into hospital or something like that.

KatherinaMinola · 18/01/2019 20:11

Poor little things. So gorgeous and gentle.

I do worry for the person involved here - looks like either the owner has lost his/her mind, having previously cared for them, or that there's some other nasty bastard in the frame.

squee123 · 18/01/2019 20:47

Flowers to all the lovely people donating and sending food etc.

The more I think about it the more I wonder if it was some idiotic but well meaning person that was in the process of moving the cats somewhere else and so carefully packaged them up and perhaps left then out for collection by a family member. Clearly that was a very stupid thing to do, and they could have suffocated, but that would explain why such well loved cats were boxed up so thoroughly. But perhaps I'm just naive and desperate to believe it wasn't just cruelty.

LeilaCat · 18/01/2019 21:09

Who on earth could do such a thing SadAngry

Vinorosso74 · 19/01/2019 01:00

I reckon a partner (sadly domestic abuse) or elderly person deceased. I know someone who commented about it being "another day at the office" but was heartwarmed by the response so sometimes a case does draw attention and raise funds and awareness to a charity. It is shit this goes on daily and I think more awareness should be out there. I'm not media savvy but I don't think people fully realise the extent of animal rescue on what is supposedly an animal nation. Love and so much respect to you all on the coal face. I feel slightly removed from it with what I do and not sure how I'd cope with it all.

*Animal loving nation

Vinorosso74 · 14/04/2019 22:04

Had trouble finding this!!
I have seen the lovely updates on Facebook on 6 of the cats (3 pairs) in their new homes and they are looking like happy cats now.
Sadly CHAT had a case of rescuing 45 cats from one home recently. Obviously this is along with the other ongoing stuff.
I was talking to a fellow CP volunteer recently who drives the van for cat pick ups and there are clearly so many vulnerable people with MH issues who cannot cope with their animals. It's all very sad for the humans and cats concerned.
