Congratulations. You now have a cat 😼

juneybean · 10/01/2019 16:39

You don't Confused

ScreamingValenta · 10/01/2019 16:40

Can you borrow a cat box and take the cat down to the vet to be scanned? It might be a lost cat that's microchipped.

Pawprintjoy · 10/01/2019 16:40

Need to leave house in 15 minutes otherwise I’d love the company aha. Dd allergic and dog hates cats so can’t leave him here. Oh how I wish I never said hi to him when I saw him on the street

ScreamingValenta he’s one of the family of stray cats that live on my street, all have been neutered by charities but somehow none were taken into centres to be rehomed because they were being fed so it “wasn’t necessary” :/

What a shame!

Have you anything you could coax him out with - tuna, chicken, salmon?

You could try picking him up but put a coat on first in case he scratches you.

If you could get your dog to bark in the cat's hearing, the cat might leave of his own accord.

thecatneuterer · 10/01/2019 17:30

What the charity would have meant by 'wasn't necessary' was that the cats weren't as in such desperate need as a lot of others they were dealing with, and there aren't enough homes available for all the cats that need them, so that sort of decision unfortunately has to be made.

I can't help with the actual problem though. For the future can you get him a nice kennel in the garden?

chemenger · 10/01/2019 17:53

They are probably on a waiting list to be taken in by the rescue but not getting to the top of it. There will be cats having litters under sheds and strays in very poor condition that are leapfrogging strays who are being fed. You say someone used to feed him, is this no longer the case? It might be worth contacting the rescue again if so.
Try picking him up and putting him outside. I had a stray who used to come in for a sit down on the sofa, I think he just got tired and cold and needed a little bit of comfort. He was being fed but unfortunately someone laid claim to him by putting a collar on him, but didn’t deflea him or neuter him or let him stay in at night. I treated his fleas and was discussing neutering with a rescue when unfortunately he was killed on the road. I say unfortunately laid claim to him because I had arranged to take him to a rescue but once he was “owned” I couldn’t.

Pawprintjoy · 10/01/2019 18:10

He’s out again, he let me pick him up so I put him outside and dropped dd off to her friends, he was waiting on doorstep still when I got back Grin tempted to bring him to my dsis who’d be happy to take him in as he’s very friendly and affectionate just slightly timid but no clue if there’s any laws stopping me?

ScreamingValenta · 10/01/2019 18:18

If the cat is known to have no owner, then there's no law against adopting it. In your position I would check whether the cat had been microchipped or reported as lost at your local vet before taking it to your sister, just in case someone is looking for it. I'm sure he'd be much happier with your sis than as a stray!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 10/01/2019 18:19

The cat has adopted you. You are not it’s pet.

Pawprintjoy · 10/01/2019 19:04

Back on the sofa now dh is home and ddog is asleep in kitchen Grin spoke to a neighbor while tidying up the garden and she said that she has been feeding cat since September when the lovely women who used to feed them got too ill to do it, she’s got pictures of cat when she started feeding him and im shocked at how thin he was compared to now, still smaller than most cats I’ve seen but he looks so much better now aha I’ll drop him into vet tomorrow to be scanned for a microchip and then go from there (half hoping he’s 100% a stray now as have got quite attached and dsis would adore him, feel bad for the wee fella sleeping on our doorstep in the cold Grin)

ScreamingValenta · 10/01/2019 19:08

He's beautiful! Such a shame your dd is allergic - I hope your sis can take him!

chemenger · 10/01/2019 19:08

He is a beautiful cat. Good luck at the vet.

DonnaDarko · 10/01/2019 19:10

Congratulations on your new cat Wink

Harebellmeadow · 10/01/2019 19:14

Congratulations on yor new cat!
If you really cant look after him, and you know he is otherwise well looked after, you could open he doors and windows to allow him to escape, then switch the vacuum cleaner on at the opposite end of the room. This will make him run out, hopefully not onto a busy road.
If he is hungry please ensure henis fed somewhere. Doesnt have to be in your housebthough, but outside it.

I have PMd you.

Harebellmeadow · 10/01/2019 19:20

Hope you keep him though. He seems to love you and need a home. He will reward you handsomely in good karma.
Have you read Gobbolino the Witches Cat? The little kitten desperately wants a home but keeps being kicked out. It’s heartbreaking 😢.

Harebellmeadow · 10/01/2019 19:21

Please check for ticks straight away!

chemenger · 10/01/2019 19:21

Sparking I take it that you are still waiting to find that dream kitten outside your front door!

notangelinajolie · 10/01/2019 19:24

You are the chosen one! Congratulations Smile You are absolutely doing the right thing in taking him to the vet to be checked for a chip - you know a bit about him so I doubt his owner will be found at this stage but you never know.
Our well loved cat lost her way a few weeks back and she was gone for 3 days and 3 very freezing nights. We found her by chance sat on a wall about 2 miles from home. If we hadn't found her I like to think that some lovely family would have taken pity and looked after her. I don't think ours had found anyone because she was very thin and dirty and I dread to think of what might have happened to her if we hadn't found her.
