Flea treatment for cats

We never normally notice any fleas at this time of year but maybe it’s warmer than usual?

What do people use these days for fleas-I don’t think Frontline is as effective as it was. Any suggestions welcome.
Has anyone tried this?

Johnstons products are crap imo, you need a prescription flea treatment.

Frontline isn't effective for our cat.

We use Bravecto. Also use a home treatment spray too, and hoover lots if you have fleas to break the egg cycle.

We get Stronghold from the Vets (not sure if it's replaced the old one which was Advocate). Both work well. I also use Indorex flea spray which you can buy online - I ordered some recently (2 for £12 on Amazon). I do everything in my house with the spray every 12 months, and have never had fleas in the house. The spray kills the eggs etc that stray fleas may leave. The on-cat treatment only works when the fleas bite the cat I think, so it's possible they can still bring in live fleas.

If you go to the Vets, I signed up to Healthy Pet Club (not sure how many vets do this). It's about £12/month, but you get the Stronghold free every month, plus vaccinations every year and a discount on treatment if needed.

We use Stronghold monthly(ish) and never had any problems. Have used Advocate too and likewise that worked. I think they are more or less the same but different manufacturers (don't quote me on that). Both need to come from a vet.
I think Advantage is a reliable one which doesn't require a vet to prescribe it.
So much for sale in the shops is rubbish. Avoid Bob Martin products too.

Advocate is brilliant. I wouldn’t use anything from a pet shop.

Snog · 10/01/2019 14:58

Pet shop is a waste of time, you need a recent vet recommended prescription treatment

RiverTam · 10/01/2019 15:02

can't remember what ours is but like other posters say, it's from the vet.

HardAsSnails · 10/01/2019 15:02

The only non-prescription spot on that works is Advantage.

Agree with PP....I only buy from the vet
