Post-op care

Looking for a hand hold, and also some advice. My 12-y-o Maine Coon boy is going in for a fairly major op tomorrow (subject to blood results), to remove a lump from his leg. Vet says the op will take a while as it’s where the leg joins the body and there’s a lot of stuff to negotiate., and that it’s a bit risky due to his age, weight (he’s a bit thin for a large-framed Maine Coon at 6.8kg) and the likely length of time under anaesthetic. The lump will then be sent off for analysis.

Obviously we’re worried that he might not survive the operation (everything crossed!) but, assuming he does, is there anything I can do for him at home to make him as happy and comfortable as possible while he recovers? He’s an indoor cat and I will get some plain cooked chicken ready for him, water and litter tray, and make a cosy bed for him on the floor. What else will he need/can we do for him?

The you are likely to get detailed written discharge instructions that will cover all of this.

What Lone said. Our vets always provide printed discharge instructions (even if the animal hasn't had surgery but was admitted for treatment). You normally speak to a vet or nurse so you can go through it and ask any questions.
He'll likely feel a bit crap when he first gets home so let him snooze somewhere warm and quiet for a while.
Hope all goes well.
