Neighbours not happy! Getting cats to poo in OUR garden

Oh God! We have two kittens 8 mo old. They've been going out and about in our garden for three months or so, and I was pleased to see them starting to go over the fences into the neighbours' gardens too (we live in a row of small terraces so that's not too far). They have a litter tray in the house and it's certainly actively used so I didn't even think they were pooing outside.

Neighbour from 2 doors down came round today - our cats, or one of them anyway, is pooing loads in their garden, and they have 2 little girls. He was asking me to try and do something. Can I train them to poo in ours? Maybe if I make a defined space - perhaps even use the litter tray lid in the garden over a bit of earth?? Any thoughts? Complicating factor is a big bruiser of a cat from next door (who uses our garden as HIS poo space) who is quite aggressive and territorial to them and one of the cats at least is quite scared of him. Help!

I always make sure I keep the soil loose in our few places in our garden and our lad generally sticks to those. One area is poo corner!
Big aggressive cat you may have to squirt with water to try to keep him away.

Get him a water sprayer and tell him to spray them when they do it . They will soon get the message ..

Oh thank you - that's a brilliant idea about the water sprayer for the neighbour - gives him freedom to do what he needs to do. I'll make some spots in our garden, maybe with their backs against the fence.

No chance of cat proofing to keep the bully out and your cats in?

PatPhoenix · 07/01/2019 16:04

Oh does that mean fences or what? [googles]

Blimey. I guess I could do that. Looks expensive and complicated. Might be worth it for good neighbourly relations though.

You can buy ultrasonic cat repellents, not tried myself but seem to get fairly good reviews. worth buying a couple for the neighbour?

A nice soft area of soil in your own garden will help, under cover perhaps, our boys used to go under a small tree right beside our front door. You could give them the idea by putting some poo out of the litter tray where you want them to go.

SpottedTiger · 07/01/2019 16:51

The ultrasonic cat repellents are absolute torture to young people who can hear the frequency, police stopped our neighbour using one as it was making us ill when I was in my 20s. So they definately won't want one if they have kids. Lion poo from the zoo is supposed to help, but not sure they will fancy that idea either.

Check out Katzsecure or Oscillot I think they're called. Basically rollers that go on top of fencing that cats can't climb over. You can also get them made by a decent handyman. Costs a few non but your cats will have the freedom of the garden without the dangers of being loose around the streets.
