One or two kittens in our circs?

Finally ready to look for kittens, but just wondering if we should really get two, or just one?
I’m a SAHM, we have two DC who are 7.5 & 4.5.
Good size garden on an estate, so no fast roads nearby.
Smallish house with one main living space, so the kitten/s couldn’t have their own room unfortunately. We do have a small utility/loo they could use, but it’s v small.
I haven’t had a cat since leaving home 20 years ago, family members have generally had single kittens, but I’ve been told by everyone else to get two!
So, one or two?

Another vote for two! I have two fluffy ginger rescue boys. Gorgeous cats who were inseparable as kittens. They are now 7 and still get on well but have developed very different characters. One is a real home boy whereas the other prefers to be out most of the time. Having said that, they both still do 5am zoomies together on the landing!

Glad i’m right then Wolfie, it seemed really suss. We’ll wait for kitten season then!
I was speaking to a lady at a local rescue about fostering, but the layout of our ground floor makes it impractical, especially as the kids can’t be trusted to keep doors shut.

We’re South Bucks, so I’ve been looking on CatChat, the Cats Protection rehoming site, is that a good place to start?

My last cat was an all-black beauty Basic, she was utterly gorgeous and smelt of Chanel No5. We never figured out why - we lived in the sticks and had no perfume-wearing neighbours in sight!

We’ve always used local rescues.
Our first two came from Katz Castle in Surrey! There is also RSPCA places round there. Do Battersea Windsor branch have cats? Cats protection is a good place to start.
Any pets at the moment? Vets may know of rescue places near you.
Exciting times!

Quick google turns up local rescues like 4 paws and Marjorie Nash. Blue cross around too. Have a Google!!
Not that I’m trying to find you kittens or anything. Blush

It’s alright. They will make him a proper cat slave in no time. Grin

Our cat was born in December and we adopted her in the February, so although typically kitten season starts in spring, there are litters around all the time, if you keep an eye out. We got her from cats protection, I don’t know if they keep lists but maybe worth getting in touch in case they want to do a home visit so you are ready when a litter come in.

Rule of thumb is one litter tray per cat plus one more. Of course as I have 7 cats I cannot have 8 trays around the house so they are cleaned out 3 times a day instead!

Two kittens are better than one as said and a nice multi level scratching post would save your furniture but you do need to teach them that is what it's for. My cats are subjected to being picked up and front paws slightly pushed to make claws come out a bit and then do the scratching action in carpet/sofa followed by deep voiced bad girl then taken to scratch post and repeat with a high pitch good girl repeated a few times. Must cats get that fairly quickly, only the dumb (aka stubborn) ones need a few reminders.

Feed 3/4 meals a day initially and don't let them out till 6 months old, preferably longer and certainly not before they have been neutered.

I love cats, I certainly prefer them to people most of the time. GrinGrin

Definitely two. I had two adult sisters who shared a litter tray food bowls. Extra ones were ignored. My new cat is also happy to share with her adopted sister.
