Hello,

Our boy is about 7 months old. He's lived with us for over 4 months, came from adoptions centre aged 3 months already neutered and litter trained. He has a tray and a cat flap. He's settled and happy with us.

However! Over the last 2 weeks I keep noticing a smell of cat wee in our front room. No sign of a puddle and I can't pin point a particular spot. It's very strong, dh can't smell it at all but mil can so I'm not going mad! It coincided with the xmas decorations going up so initially wondered if the tree had perhaps been urinated on at the farm before we got it home.

But today I picked up a jumper that had been on the floor, under our other Christmas tree in another room. It's a brand new gift, and It stinks of cat urine. It's not wet. I went on a hunt and found my son's Xmas stocking also has this scent....

What's going on? Do neutered males spray? Would he spray on the Christmas trees? One is a real tree one is artificial.

Or could a neighbourhood cat be coming in at night to mark his scent? So cats do this?

Help! Any advise how we stop this? Confused

I’ve always thought that the ‘non-drop’ (I wish!) trees can smell a bit wee-like, so it could be that the smell is making the cat spray elsewhere?

I guess it’s probably a bit strange for a huge tree to suddenly appear in his house and it will likely have the scent of all sorts of outdoorsy stuff on it.

I hoping it is just that. Much easier to get rid of the decs than deal with a bigger problem.

I've never heard of other cats doing it! Just our luck!
