Poorly kitten - vet?

We have boy and girl kittens, about five months old. We got home today to find the girl had been sick (she seemed fine this morning) and there was diarrhoea in the litter tray (although not too awful). She’s very quiet this evening and gave her dinner a sniff but not interested in eating it. The boy is also quieter this evening, but hoping that’s just sympathy...?!

With the children, I’d just keep an eye on them, but I’ve never had cats before and I’m not sure at what point I should think about taking her to the vet (also aware that it will be closed for the bankholiday on Tuesday). Is there a point where this is still going on we should take her and when - tomorrow morning? Wednesday?

They’re lovely kittens and usually chasing each other about the house at this point in the evening. I just have no idea if this is a normal bug type thing for cats or something to be more worried about. They don’t go outside yet and have had all their vaccinations.

Thank you!

Poorly kitten (still alert, but so much quieter than usual!).

I would take her to the vet tomorrow.
I took my cat to the vet on Friday because I felt a bump on her jaw and wasn’t sure what to make of it. It was harmless and due to an injury she must have had some time ago (I got her from a shelter). I’m still glad that I went to the vet because I would have been worried otherwise. Plus I didn’t have to pay anything.
Since your cat has diarrhea, it is important that she goes to the vet asap because she might get dehydrated. Please take her there tomorrow.

They're probably fine - ours have occasionally had a bad day much as you describe (we suspect dodgy food, happened twice from the same box of packets) and they're perky again by next day.

If either is still no better tomorrow, time for a vet check.

Our little man (10 months) was sick a while back and had loose poo (not unusual though he has tummy problems)

In a panic I took him straight to the vet - but it was a normal bug and he was fine!

I mean, you pay for your apt, and our vet it large so can alwats see them at the drop of a hat - so I never feel bad taking him in!

  • the one time you don’t it’ll be something serious!

Thank you! Will check to see how she is in the morning and call the vet if she’s still not eating.

I'd leave her overnight, maybe feed some chicken in the morning and keep an eye on her...

Belated update. It seems our cat wasn’t poorly but registering her distaste at a change in food.... Usual type is now back and she’s made a miraculous recovery.

I’d heard about fussy cats and thought I was being clever by mixing the brands up.... Clearly not.
