The difference a cat can make ...

It’s been a bit of a rubbish year chez crumpets and my eldest DS (6) in particular has struggled ( my ex left, he finds friendships and school difficult etc).

In the autumn we got 2 kittens, kitten 2 joining us in November. Oh my the difference that kitten 2 has made to all our lives! He is the cuddliest, most confident, chatty and loving cat I’ve ever met. He adores my children, loves to be cuddled. He gives my eldest DS so much love, helps him calm down when angry, comforts him when he has had a bad day. Even little things like I can now put youngest DS to bed easily as eldest will now happily sit in his room reading and cuddling kitten 2.

He has honestly changed a bit of a sad house into a much happier place and has helped a little boy cope with life that bit easier.

It sounds crazy but I’m honestly so grateful to that lovely little cat.

I should add I love kitten 1 as well but he’s a bit more reserved and much more ‘my’ cat.

That's really sweet. My friend adopted two cats and the difference they've made to him is amazing.

MargotLovedTom1 · 28/12/2018 13:06

That's so lovely. Any photos? Grin

bobstersmum · 28/12/2018 13:25

I am not a cat person but this post made me well up!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 28/12/2018 14:30

That's fantastic! Agree pics are needed Xmas Grin

Santaisonthesherry · 28/12/2018 14:32

Mm no pics? Doubt you even have kittens... Angry

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 28/12/2018 14:33

Just to add do you keep them in overnight? I'd be very worried about losing kitten2 under the circumstances. Kitties often lack road awareness. I'm sure you have it all in hand but I'd be looking at a catio or garden-proofing as an investment if there's any chance of them wandering.

How brilliant for your son and household!

SagelyNodding · 28/12/2018 14:40

I'm just here for the pictures! I wish I could have another cat, but Dcat1 would NOT be happy!

KateGrey · 28/12/2018 14:44

Ah love the protective paw!!

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 28/12/2018 15:07

They're little miracle workers. I was in a really dark place 4 years ago after a MC. Desperately trying to get help for my mental health. My husband came home one day and presented me with a kitten. She made such a profound impact on my life I can never thank her enough. I wasn't alone, she was there for me to love and she loved me right back. They are so special. This is my tiger-lily

Here's my new baby. He's 11 months old and has brought so much to us. My old fella died this year of old age and we missed him so much. This one is so naughty but so cute. My Christmas tree is trashed.

Such lovely pictures of all your cats.

I’m actually really worried about my little kitten tonight. He got neutered today and has come back clawing and pawing at his face all the time. I rang the vets who said not to worry he is just teething but it seemed so extreme I googled it and started reading about FOPs which can occur in Burmese. Sometimes the pain means the cat has to be PTS. I’m so worried that this is what he has developed - it really looks like the symptoms and he was very stressed at the vets.

I’m actually in tears as I don’t know what I will do if it turns out to be that Sad. I wish I hadn’t taken him to get neutered.

You are spiralling and thinking of the very worst case scenario which is understandable but try and take a more measured approach, your cat is on step 1 of a symptom that they have only had for a few hours! Your vet is more than likely correct and that he is teething and also your cat will be stressed after an operation so this could be effecting his behaviour, you are a very very long way off of even having to think about PTS that is the very worst case scenario of a disease he probably does not even have! see how he is in 24 hours and if he is still doing it phone the vets again to put your mind at rest or to organise more investigation. Your cats are gorgeous by the way.

Ilovecrumpets · 28/12/2018 18:52

Thanks Betty - you are right and the logical part of me can see I’m overreacting! I think it has just been such a bad year that I’m almost programmed to expect the worst to happen ( if that makes sense). I actually have health anxiety around my kids and am wondering if I also have it about the cats!!

Sorry to hear kitty is a bit off colour. It's a good idea, if you can, to film him on your phone while he's doing it. It's easier for the vet to see than you trying to explain!

My old cat Harley did the face pawing after his OP, vet said teeth back then and also after effects of anaesthetic. He lived to 17.

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 28/12/2018 18:57

Of course you'll be worried about him, they're like family. PP is absolutely right. Your vet is the expert and they will have a good idea of what it might be. It could even be that he's cut his mouth eating something? Mine are always in at things they shouldn't be. Hoping it all works out fine.

Ilovecrumpets · 28/12/2018 19:05

Thanks everyone - I really went into a panic and I appreciate people taking time to reply. The littertray is fabSmile
