Cat basket for two cats? Has anyone got one they would recommend?

So the kittens are too big for their current basket. They are always together so I want to find one they can both fit in for visits to vet/transport to cattery - has anyone got a basket/carrier they get two moggies in comfortably?

Would they not be too heavy to still go in together? Remember you have to carry it!

Just get a very large cat basket. Mine is big enough for 2 adult cats. You can get them online.

I have 2 old 'top loader' wicker cat baskets both bought over 25 years ago (think large picnic hamper).
I transport four cats in the two of them.

Ours is big enough but I find it too heavy to get across the car park at the vets. Also found it very hard getting both cats in (as soon as I try getting the second one in the first one escapes) so we ended up with separate carriers.

I have one which looks like a gym bag. Very sturdy but mostly material / mesh instead of solid plastic
My 2 cats are huge and used to share but now we have one each, but the ones we have are only the middle size
Added bonus, they absolutely love them and if we leave them out after use, they sleep in / on them.
Plus they fold flat

They are from the range

Get a wheeled carrier (or even a wheeled dog carrier)! Admittedly I have no experience but they seem like a good idea Grin

Ditto a small/medium dog bed if you can't find a cat one big enough.

I recommend separate baskets as easier to carry, I put mine on the back seat of the car longways with the mesh door facing each other so they can see each other. Pop the seat belt through the handle so everyone's safe on the journey, then it's just the singing to endure..

Remeber they will be heavy. I just got a big basket and it's been going for over 15 years now.

But with 10kg of cat in it, you don't want to take it far. It can also be a challenge to stop 1st cat escaping while opening door for 2nd cat. 2 carriers could be a lot easier.

I'd also stick to plastic, not fabric or wicker - ill cats can have accidents en route to the vet. Being able to stick it under the garden hose proved helpful.

I use 2 big plastic ones with a decent metal door. It would be too heavy to put both into one carrier

Plus, cats can make themselves heavier at will.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 01/01/2019 09:58

Find a friend with a cat and buy one each. Generally you just need to take one at a time if ill. For vaccinations borrow one from a friend or book in for separate trips.

I also think you'd be better with two baskets. The thought of trying to get a second pissed off cat into a basket that already contains a pissed off cat doesn't appeal to me!

MissTook · 01/01/2019 10:35

These type of threads always send me off searching and I don't even
have a cat.And
I've ended up buying a bum bag. Confused

viccat · 01/01/2019 10:47

Definitely better to have two separate ones for all the reasons mentioned by others plus it's safer that way as well.

MeetOnTheSIedge · 01/01/2019 10:52

Yes to plastic being easier to keep clean.

Soupdragon - yes getting one pissed off cat in with another is definitely too much hard work. As is two separate visits for injections (ours have two lots per year each).

We have two of the plastic ones with clip off lids, one slightly bigger than the other. Once the lids are off the four sections stack inside one another with the blankets inside the top one so they don't take up too much storage space.

Two baskets. We used a small dog carrier for both cats when they outgrew the cat carrier. Disaster! It was really heavy and awkward if the cats moved around as the load wasn't balanced. I was really worried it would pop open. We quickly bought another small car carrier and carry them separately now.
