Aggressive cat next door

Our next door neighbour's cat has become more and more aggressive towards my two girls.

When we first moved in they just all avoided each other and were fine. He's gradually got more aggressive and now my girls can't even go out onto our driveway without him attacking them.

He's been coming into the house and spraying so we're having to keep the cat flap shut/locked.

I feel like they can barely go out at all now. Within 5 minutes of them going out there's shouting and we have to go out to get them. The NDN's cat gives no fucks!

NDN are truly lovely and have said to throw water on him until he gets the message.

Any advice??

They're right about water - if you don't have a water pistol, a squeezy bottle will do. Have it primed and ready at all times - you'll need ninja-like reflexes to get there in time but persist. Good that the neighbours are being nice about it but still a pain in the neck for you.

Definitely throw water, use the hose, a water pistol until he gets the message. It won't hurt him but hopefully it will deter him.

My cat does this to neighbours' cats, and I'm mortified. We were house sitting for a neighbour once, went into their kitchen, and our cat emerged from a cupboard. He looked at us as if to say, 'What are you doing here?' He'd been beating their cat up in it's own house. Our neighbour finally started throwing water over him when he went into their garden, and eventually he would depart as soon as he saw the bucket. He still likes our neighbour, he was all over him when the neighbour came to our house the other day, so not exactly traumatised.

We've just heard that the people over the road have got three little kittens. Our first thought was 'Hope our cat keeps away from them.' Sure enough, he was on their doorstep yesterday. Maybe we should buy them a super-soaker.

So I need to be an armed bodyguard whenever they leave the house.

My neighbour's are mortified their cat is a bully but they can't really sit him down and have a chat.

Is it because he's a Tom? I thought female cars were tougher!! They've never been bullied before.

When you say a tom, do you mean he is unneutered? That would for sure make him more territorial.

HammerHorror · 22/12/2018 11:03

He's neutered. He's just so aggressive. I thought maybe even neutered tom's might be territorial.

Oh God, I came on this thread thinking it might be about our reprobate. (It isn't - next door only have one cat. Phew.) He is neutered but territorial and hates every other cat in the street (doesn't mind the dogs, though. Weirdo.) Water and chasing off is all I can suggest - and a microchip cat flap to keep unwanted visitors out your girls' safe home.

I have 6 cats and for almost a year they've been too afraid to go out because of cat next door attacking them. He's so brazen and aggressive, even comes in the house. We have 2 dogs who chase him but still he comes! Water guns haven't worked. We have 6 litter trays but the cats are so stressed that they wee and pooh in corners. Feluway diffusers x 4 aren't helping either. We steeled ourselves to speak to the owners next door before Xmas, a lovely couple who dote on their cat but we don't see them much. They just knocked, full of gifts and good cheer. We didn't say a word! !!
