Your Cat's Favourite Toys..

Please recommend them!

Ours is 8 months, daughter wants to get him some new toys for Christmas. He's a house cat and I think his current toys bore him, he used to love pom poms but doesn't like them anymore. He loves feathery jingly fishing rod toys and I think we've had every one Pets at Home sell!

Currently mine are very happy with a selection of shoe laces! I think Girlcat's favorite today is the one I've tied onto the cross strut of a dining chair, she's been attacking the bow & undoing it off & on for hours now.

Otherwise, Boycat is currently into catnip filled mice, which he disembowels & then leaves gritty bits of compressed catnip behind - in my bed Shock.

SaltPans · 20/12/2018 14:26

Pipe cleaners!

AndromedaPerseus · 20/12/2018 14:26

Tie a bit of tinsel firmly on the fishing rod toys our dcat goes mad for it

SantasBassoon · 20/12/2018 14:29

A ball made of crinkly plastic that's a bit like a pompom but can't be shredded. Laser pointer, of course.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/12/2018 14:49

Magic loves a stack of rings with balls in. Their favourite toys are from mollies mice and classicats.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 20/12/2018 14:50

Cardboard box with a ping pong ball in it.

Bolt Laser.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/12/2018 16:09

Foam ear plugs, moser Roth dark choc wrappers rolled into a ball, ping pong balls, drinking straws.

Vinorosso74 · 20/12/2018 16:12

Ping pong balls are a favourite for ours. I am sick of retrieving them from under the furniture!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 20/12/2018 16:55

Real feathers - peacock are best.

JockMcGraw · 20/12/2018 17:45

The da bird stick toy (you can get it from pets at home). My two are also indoor cats and the do not get bored of it. Boy cat didn't really understand how to play until we got it, it's Fab! They especially love the attachment that moves like a propeller.

Only downside is the refills are quite expensive and in my house they don't seem to last more than a few goes each.

They love it so much I hide it in the cupboard to stop them harming themselves with it when they're not about. All I have to do is open the cupboard door and the come bounding from wherever they are in the house. Excellent tactic to get them out of places they shouldn't be GrinGrin

My kitten has a massive box full of toys ( he has nearly every cat toy from our local pet shop ) but his favourite things to play with are Q-tips and milk bottle lids..

Sausagefingers9 · 20/12/2018 17:48

I got a big hamper present recently and my cat has loved jumping on the plastic wrapping!

With house cats it’s a good idea to have a good collection of toys and rotate them to avoid boredom. Keep swapping them around and he’ll be delighted every time you get a new one out.

Raglansleeve · 20/12/2018 17:58

Toddlerteaplease, our cats love those stacks of rings with the ping pong balls in - one of them has a mad 5 minutes a few times a day and really wallops it.

got ours from Tesco for their birthday Blush but it's similar to this one (Tesco one was only £5 though)

When he was a kitten he loved wand toys I get refills from Purrs on Amazon made of real fur/feathers, which do catch his interest, but also cheap as chips Zooplus feathery ones.
Catnip banana gets a good going over but most consistent toy is spring coils which get battered up and down the hall. Cardboard boxes and paper bags?
Latest is a wee robot mouse that skitters off when touched. How we love him hunting this at 3am.....

Beamur · 21/12/2018 00:06

Bits of onion skin
Shadows
Bits of wire. Green garden wire is the best. Cut into lengths and then wound into a spiral, moves in a pleasingly skittish way on a tiled floor
Real mice.

Lindy2 · 21/12/2018 00:08
  • a mesh laundry basket (she leaps in it, on it, under it, round it.... sheer joy).
  • Christmas baubles (any that spin fast on the wood floor)
  • the Christmas tree (although even the cat is realising she is a bit too fat this year to climb it well).
  • a particular leaf on my rose bush in the garden that she must leap at every time she goes past
  • mice (she has to provide these herself).
madcatladyforever · 21/12/2018 07:32

A cat nip banana off Amazon, she goes crazy for it :-)

hartof · 21/12/2018 10:46

Thank all! Off to look at your suggestions now.

I worry about leaving string around in case he strangles himself with it - is that irrational?

He's doing my head in with the Xmas tree and is locked out of that room when we're not there.

A bit late to the thread but have to recommend Kong's range of refillable catnip toys. They are a cute range of animals, small, with a velcro slit to cram the dried nip in.
My younger goes bonkers for it, tries to stuff it entirely into his mouth using both paws, rolls over it etc
It gets soaked in kitty drool and he loves it!Easy to renew the mesmeric effect by adding more herb.
These sell for under £3 each on Amazon and comewith a tube of herb. This is his current fave www.amazon.co.uk/KONG-Refillable-Catnip-Hedgehog-Cat/dp/B0051BGP0W/?tag=mumsnetforum-21
