Picking up our cat on Saturday

It’s my first post and Im so excited! We’re getting a retired breeding cat (she’s only 4) on Saturday and am after any tips to help her settle in. The breeder thinks she’ll do very well on her own as she’s gone off other cats. She’s a silver bengal, quite petite. We’ve got a cat tree, some toys(apparently she likes the track thing where they chase a ball).
Anyone have any experience doing this?

I think my best advice is just to let them do their own thing. One of mine hid under the bed for days, came out to eat and use litter box. You just have to let them get on with it until they're comfortable and not fuss about them. He's a lovely affectionate boy now.

Easier said than done sometimes, he'd had a hard time of it and I just wanted him to know he could trust us but had to do it on his terms!

I had two retired breeding queens. They had no experience of living in a house. They were rescued from a kitten farm. But it's worth checking with the breeder If she lived in the house or a cattery.

Thank you Emma, yes we’ve got a room for her where we were going to leave her for a bit. I read that cats feel more comfortable with people who don’t show interest in them as they think stroking by a stranger is aggressive-but if you let them approach you then they feel safer.
Toddler, she is in the house at the moment and seems used to it, the breeder keeps her adults outside, but it looks very luxurious, with heated houses, trees to climb and lots of toys.

We got a load of fancy things for our cat when we first got her and all she wanted to do was sleep on our laps. Her bed cost £70!! She stood in it once.

Put her litter tray in a corner away from her food bowls and bed, maybe get a covered tray. A cardboard box with a fluffy blanket in it where she can sit and be quiet if she wants to, is she a climber?

We brought her home last night and after a good look round, all she wanted to do was climb on my lap and get petted! She’s gorgeous!

Yes!! Photos pls?

Cheshirecatty · 10/12/2018 09:48

Here she is! So she comes out when we’re around but hides when we leave the room. The door’s open and she’s showing interest but not yet venturing out. She’s eating (trying to steal my breakfast) and using her tray. Any noise sends her scurrying back to hide.
We got her because my son is very allergic to his dad’s cats so got a Bengal as they’re meant to be low allergy, and he met her before we got her and he was fine.

Frankie we bought a cat tree ready for her but I’ve a feeling she’ll like the bookcase! Good job we’ve fixed it to the wall. Cheesy, we got a covered tray and the breeder told us to take the door off and she uses it ok 😀
