Introducing new kitten to existing kitten

Hi all

I have a nearly 5 month old kitten and have just also got a little 13 week old kitten.

I’d read all about slowly introducing etc. Kitten 1 is desperate to play with new kitten - no growling or hissing at all, claws in but somewhat obsessed. Kitten 2 is extremely confident - hissing and growling at kitten 1 and chasing him away. When kitten 2 does hiss kitten 1 just backs off and sits watching before commenting trying to play again. I’m pretty sure kitten 2 isn’t that nervous as will eat with kitten 1 near by and runs towards him as well. He doesn’t hide or run off at all and seems to go to engage with kitten 1.

I’ve been trying to keep them separate to slowly introduce but kitten 1 waits outside the door crying as so obsessed with kitten 2 and kitten 2 waits the other side as desperate to explore. So they are coming face to face as every time I open it they both make a run for it.

I’m just wondering whether it would actually be better in these circumstances to introduce them fully and just let them get on with it?

Kitten 1 is a very intense but extremely soppy Siamese if it makes any difference. He is big though.

i would just let them get on with it, under a bit of supervision, they sound delightful, any pics?

We got ours when Treacle was nearly 1 and Toffee was 6 weeks old.
We kept them apart for a week- both crying through the door. We gradually introduced them while we were around. No hissing, lots of chasing and Treace sitting on him.
One day we walked into a room to find this:
Good luck OP Smile

My mum used to rub each cat with a tea towel and the swap the towels and rub the other cat. Does that make sense? In order to swap the smells over. It’s normally the current cat that can struggle to adjust though!

Thanks all!

I might let them play together a bit more but then continue to separate at night and if I’m not there.

Yes @blueemeraldagain I was all prepared for a shy kitten 2 and issues with kitten 1. Kitten 1 really is a great big softy though - he hasn’t shown any aggression at all but is obsessed with kitten 2. I know the hissing in kitten 2 does indicate a nervousness but kitten 1 backs off straight away. It’s just he then comes back 2 minutes later. As I said kitten 2 also seems to initiate play as well, but then ends up hissing. Kitten 1 is a bit intense!

Will try the scent exchange as well.

Quick update - let them fully introduce. Just came down to them both curled up together in the carrier ( sadlynimpossible to get a pic as so intertwined!)

Oh my goodness they are both beautiful. You’ve probably got your hands full now though with that pair- they will surely govern the household now 😂

Is this the Siamese who likes a bit of poached fish for breakfast?

Msbobblysocks · 03/12/2018 07:29

Ha ha Fluffy yes he is! He is getting really big these days - he’s a real gentle soul though, little kitten bosses him around all the time. Little kitten is uber cuddly and sits on the kids shoulders like a parrot. My lovely Siamese though has still never bitten or scratched the kids, keeps his claws in with them and watches over everyone. Having said that he refused to eat his cat food last night as he knew there was a cold roast chicken in the fridge ...
