We've got two seven month olds. One is quite laid back , but the other is into everything - anything dangling he won't leave alone, he climbs up the airer, jumps onto the top of book cases, kitchen wall cabinets, so a Christmas tree is totally out of the question. Actually probably tinsel is off limits as well!!

Any ideas what we can do instead. It'd be nice to have a centre piece to put the presents around. I do have a large metal garden centre which we could put presents under. but how to make it look Christmases I don't know.

I had a tree anyway! He pulled it over twice and then was scared of the tree. I also wired the tree to the ceiling.

Zofloramummy · 24/11/2018 11:11

Mine use it as a bed! You can’t find them anywhere and then realise there is a pair of eyes looking at you from the tree 🙄

sweetkitty · 24/11/2018 13:33

I feel your pain mine are 7 months old, one a crazy ginger boy and a small but fiesty tortie girl. They are mad I’m dreading putting the tree up

DC insisted on chewing the (metal) branches and pulling the tree over. I was scared for his safety and his teeth. We have sliding glass doors between the living room and conservatory and put the tree in the conservatory where it could be seen. Not quite the same but needs must

Ours is 7 months too and is a right little daredevil! This weekend we have discovered he can jump on top of our very high (old terrace so v.high ceilings) fitted wardrobes. There's a gap on top right at the back, he got down there and got stuck behind the wardrobe - we literally had to saw through it to get him out!!

Trees going up on sunday and I am dreading it! Going to put all the wooden decs at the bottom and lock him out of the lounge when we're not around. Hopefully the tree survives Grin

If you have a tree - they will climb it. But you'll get some great photos.

They do grow out of it though - it only takes 4 or 5 years.

Jaxhog · 26/11/2018 12:53

PS. we bought a good quality 'fake' tree with integral lights. It gets less damaged when it's pulled over, and there's no risk of electrocution. Baubles are replaceable, although our two haven't broken any yet.

Strawberrytraveller · 26/11/2018 17:26

ours are 7 month old kittens. then haven't been outside yet. We are planning to still put up two real trees. they won't be able to knock them oven as have solid metal bases, and i figure they can only mess it up a bit, not actually harm themselves

ifonly4 · 27/11/2018 15:15

We're half wondering whether to put it up in the dining room and close off the room, it's going to be hard to keep them out though. There's no way Ollie won't be able to resist attacking the tree or climbing up it. Also, when they're tearing around the place, it's sure to get knocked over.

They probably will knock it over a couple of times, but for me its part of the fun! The tree will end up looking quite wonky by January but I think that gives it a certain charm. Grin

Our two are too old for it by now, they just sit in the lower branches or have a sniff.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 27/11/2018 15:32

We have a screw in the wall behind the tree and tie the tree to it with string Grin

BreakfastAtLitanies · 27/11/2018 16:34

I ended up here by accident, I thought you were talking about your children using Christmas trees as beds and describing them as ginger boysGrin

In other news, pics of the cats in question please?!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 28/11/2018 11:12

Do you have / could you borrow a child's play pen or travel cot to put the tree in? Ollie will still get in (I expect) but at least the tree won't be able to fall down to the floor.

Or he may surprise you. My DCAT was very lively as a kitten (and still is) but has never been that interested in the tree. I think she reckons she should be allowed to move some birds into its branches, so when the weather is foul she can go hunting without having to go outside!

Apparently Argos are doing special trees for cat owners...

Bath9000 · 30/11/2018 12:03

Aww sorry OP, nothing helpful to add, just I think it’s so funny and cute Grin
