Hello we have a year old rag doll beauty that we just love love love.
She's a joy and perfectly healthy.
What are your thoughts on insurance?
I think I should probably get it but I dont know why or what to look for?
Thank you.

Yes unless you are confident you could pay several thousands in one go if she needs an operation for example, or hundreds every year if she gets a long term condition such as hyperthyroidism or diabetes.

Look for 'covered for life'/lifetime policies - these will continue covering a condition for as many years as needed; some policies will only pay for each condition for the first year.

@viccat is right - vet bills can be huge. We have 2 dogs and a cat, and one of our dogs racked up just over £10,000 in vet bills one year, when she ruptured the cruciate ligaments in both knees.

We insure them all with PetPlan, and they have always been good - especially when the dog had all that expensive surgery - they paid the specialist vet hospital directly, so we didn’t have to find the money and then claim.

I would recommend them to anyone.

Get it. My 'healthy' Persians have run up bills of £ 15,000 in 2 years (not a typo!) Tesco have been brilliant.

Yes definitely get it! And lifetime cover.
We switched to Petplan when our old girl was 12 so couldn't get lifetime cover but had £3k cover per condition. Less than 6 months later her health problems began including surgery at a referral vets. The insurance didn't cover it all by any means but at least it helped. Petplan paid out more than we paid in. They covered the initial issue and she became diabetic which they also paid for-the vet was concerned they may not as it was all linked.
We have lifetime cover for our young lad but also put a small amount aside each month "just in case" for him.

Well just this morning DCat has been taken to the emergency vets for a bladder obstruction and I cannot tell you how relieved I was to have Petplan lifetime cover. Am hoping the money will be sorted between them and the vet so I just have to worry about him. I've not claimed yet though so can't really recommend!

I had to claim from Petplan. No quibbling at all. If I get another cat I would use them again.
