Hi, just about to get a new rescue cat.. he's 2 years old and according to the rescue centre literally does not care what type of food he gets as long as he gets it (he'll fit well into his family then!!). They wed him a mix of wet and dry food. I'd like to do the same. But some of the good quality wet food is so pricy! Don't want to go down the whiskers or Felix route though so what's the best quality out there without paying crazy prices? Thanks.

Sainsbury's do an own brand range which is grain free. Butchers classic tins also grain free. Until my old boy got old and fussy he thrived on a mix of decent dry and cheap wet food.

Zooplus is a wonderful website for all things cat! You can buy food in bulk which makes it cheaper (here's hoping he stays unfussy). Ours has Thrive which isn't one of the cheaper ones. Zooplus stock all sorts of food so you can look at ingredients-go for high meat content. The blurb from our vets says to avoid foods in jelly or gravy as they are more likely to rot the teeth.

We use Animonda carny from zooplus, its grainfree. £12 for 12 x400g tins. A cat would probably each around half of one per day. So £12 around 24 days worth. 50p+ per day depending on amount, or £15 per month

We also use applaws dry for unlimited eating, its also grainfree. some days they eat none, some days they snack on it. A 7.5kg bag is £36 from zooplus. We have gone through 1/2 a bag of the kitten one, between 2 kittens in 5 months. So a whole bag would probably last 1 cat easily a year. you can buy the smaller size bags to try. £3 per month
