My baby is booked to be spayed and I’m scared!

My 5 month old kitten is booked in to be spayed next friday and I’m worried. She’s my first cat and I’m not really sure what to expect. Will she be in pain afterwards? Will it change her personality? I can’t actually believe how much I love the crazy bitch!

She will be sore for a day or two and she has to keep a cone on for a week but then she will be fine. My cats personality wasn't affected in the slightest!

It's a 110% the right thing to do.

I think she came into heat today. Walking around the house shouting, trying to be a teeny Houdini escape artist and being generally more odd than normal. I know it’s 100% the right thing to do and I know she’ll be fine, but I know I’ll be stressing about it for the next week!

My nearly six month old was spayed two weeks ago today. The surgery went well, and she didn’t need a cone. I dropped her in at 8am and collected her at 3pm.

She was a bit sleepy and clingy, and was off her food for a day, but was back to normal in two days. Nino changes in personality, no biting at her wound. Her fur is starting to grow back now.

They gave me some painkillers that i was able to squirt into her mouth - she went for a post op ch ck after three days and was absolutely fine.

Good luck.

One thing I have noticed is slightly less interest in getting outside.

Clovie · 16/11/2018 20:45

Oh good, thank you. She a feisty little thing, I’m sure she’ll just take it all in her stride.

I don’t intend on letting her out until the spring, so it would be good if she stopped trying to scarper!

She will be fine. Probably a bit lethargic for a day or so afterwards, but then back to normal. It won't affect her personality.

I am not a cat person, never have been, until 3 months ago. She sucked me in and now I’m her personal slave/chef/masseur/hot water bottle. I don’t know how she managed it!

We have had cats before but our current two were our first kittens. They seemed so tiny when they were spayed. They recovered in no time. It made NO difference to their characters at all. And YYY to the cone. One of ours chewed through their bloody stitches and needed to be stapled as an emergency case. I was traumatised. She didn’t care at all.
Worth asking if they can microchip whilst she’s out (if you haven’t had it done already). It’s well worth doing that.
Stupid thought!! Would being in heat affect them spaying? I know with dogs they prefer to do it after a season. Worth checking with the vet?
I’m sure everything will be fine. You’ve made exactly the right decision.

I had her chipped when she was vaccinated, which was a bit of a nightmare. She was not happy when she had it done! I took her home, left her alone whilst I did the school run, came back 15 mins later and the chip was stuck to her back. It had worked itself free. It was a good job I saw it it otherwise she wouldn’t have been chipped and I would never have known. Had to take the poor baby back the next day to have it redone!

I’m not completely sure she’s in heat, but she is being very weird!

No advice I'm just here to saw awww look how pretty she is.

Dollymixture22 · 16/11/2018 21:18

I had no idea the ship could come out! My vet will only do it to kittens under anaesthetic because the needle they use is quite big🙀.

ScreamingValenta · 16/11/2018 21:21

My mum's cat took her own stitches out, but the vet said it had healed sufficiently by then not to need any further action.

Clovie · 16/11/2018 21:24

Thank you, she is very pretty and she knows it!

The vet had never seen it happen before, so not a common occurrence. I’m just glad I saw the chip on her fur.

If you think she might be in heat it might be a good idea to call the vets and let them know. Not all vets want to spay during/so close to being in heat!

Wolfiefan · 16/11/2018 21:55

Oh poor baby. Our vet volunteered to chip when we spayed to save anymore stress. Stressy, naughty torties
