Is there anything we can do about this poo issue?

Dcat is getting on a bit, and lately has been making a bit of a mess. When she uses her litter tray, she is stepping in the poo, then leaving very quickly and flicking poo coated litter around the place. Sometimes her poo is also stuck to her bum so she may drop some of that everywhere too. She does then clean herself up, but not before spreading poo everywhere.

I have had to put a pet gate across dds bedroom door so she cannot go in there as it seemed to be a firm favourite to use the tray then run straight onto dds bed. Yuck. This morning I found poo all over the dining table. Sad

She is on a good food, Purina one for seniors, has had a recent check up at the vets so we know she is in good health. Have you got any ideas that might help this situation? After repeatedly finding poo on the sofa, floor, tables, windowsills, beds etc I am reaching the end of my tether with it and it's getting me down.

Her tray is scooped daily and cleaned weekly. It is not ever old poo, it's the new poo she has just done, so cleaning the tray more isn't going to help.

I don’t think the condition you linked to is the same thing I was talking about...There are conditions which can cause cats to have dental problems of course but that’s not the same as “bad teeth” ie caused by eating sugary commercial food, which for most owners will be the reason their cats have teeth problems, and is essentially preventable. I don’t think that’s unreliable info and the kidney stuff is absolutely correct, there are several vets in my family (my brother, his wife and my cousin are all vets) and these are conversations I’ve had with them many times.

My husband is a vet. I am not. I have passed on what he has said verbatim, or shared links that he has suggested, because I think it's important that accurate information is shared, and because I don't want to share any misconceptions I may have made from our conversations.

You might not have meant dental problems when you said 'bad teeth,' but that's how I read it, I think most people would think dental problems would come under the heading of 'bad teeth.'
That's why I shared the links. I don't think you're wrong, or that you don't know what you're talking about, but I do think that clear and accurate information should be made available, and that's why I shared it. Thanks
