Cat has peed in the house, please help!

Ugh. My cat (a very lovely and fluffy but spectacularly dim) cat, has weed in the house.

I think it is on the corner of the fabric sofa - of course, this is the only non removable and washable bit Hmm and possibly on the floor around there. I think she may have been scared by the fireworks last night.

(There is a very small possibility the back door was left open at some point and another cat came in and did it, but on balance I'm blaming mine as she has a guilty face Grin)

Please help with any advice to remove it. I have tried sponging/scrubbing with disinfectant, bicarbonate of soda and of course MN Zoflora. I have lit incense and opened the windows. It still reeks. Please help!

PS The nice but dim cat is a Norwegian Forest Cat (as per the title Wink) and never does this normally. She has had a litter tray but always goes outside usually Obviously if she does it again I will take her to the vet to be checked, but she seems in good health and has literally just had annual cat MOT perhaps this is payback

If anyone has a good tip to remove the stench, I will reward them with a photo of said cat Grin

Pet shops sell enzyme cleaners for dealing with cat pee

chemenger · 06/11/2018 20:16

You need to use either a strong solution of biological washing powder or one of the pet stain sprays to remove the smell. I’ve used both successfully. With both you need to soak the area and leave it, the enzymes digest the smell chemicals.

Biological washing powder/liquid is good for removing smells from a particular site.
Keep an eye on the little dear.

I used carpet cleaner designed for pet soiling/odours when mine got cystitis and peed on the sofa. Seemed to do the trick

Oh thank you, I shall make a trip to the pet shop tomorrow. We actually have a Vax carpet washer but I was worried using hot water on it would "set" the smell.

As promised, here is a pic of the said cat being her usual intelligent self Grin

What a tum!

Hushnownobodycares · 06/11/2018 20:29

We managed to Febreeze out cat pee in the car. Might take a few goes but worth a shot.

NorskSkogkatt · 06/11/2018 20:29

She didn't even have her extra winter floof then! I love her so much.

She is gorgeous.

NorseSkogkatt · 08/11/2018 06:32

Just posting to say thank you to everyone, I bought the specialist spray from Pets at Home and it has worked! I almost fainted at the price (£8 Shock) but the stench seems to have gone. Magic stuff Smile

Here is a picture of the culprit in one of her favourite poses. At least she is protecting her modesty Grin

She has beautiful tilted eyes too, very unusual although one is bigger than the other so she looks a little lopsided

NorseSkogkatt · 08/11/2018 06:43

And of course, as soon as the house smelt clean and fresh again, DD threw up all over her bedroom and the bathroom. Timing. Hmm I wonder if the spray would be good for that too, it's enzymes as well isn't it?

This week can just fuck right off, frankly Grin
