Hi all, new to the litter tray. After 20 years of not having a cat a new Devon Rex kitten is joining our large household in three weeks. There are six of us, all over 11 years of age.
I grew up with six cats and had a couple of my own as a young adult. Now years later, I need your best tips to help our new overlord to settle in.
Please help.

Hi op, I don't have any tips but I think it's against the rules to not post a couple of photos, at least. Thank you in advance.

  1. You are not in charge.
  2. Cat beds are unnecessary, yours will do fine.
  3. You have no idea how much space a small kitten can take up in a bed when you need to sleep.
  4. They also hog the duvet.
  5. Catnip is pointless until cat is about a year old.
  6. If you have a covered litter tray you may need to provide a step.
  7. You will spend six weeks and a small fortune trying to find a food his lordship will accept.
  8. His lordship will go off said food as soon as the 150+ pouches are delivered.
  9. Cardboard scratchers are the best.
10. Photos must be posted.

Yes, that’s amazing thank you.
It’s going to be my daughters cat but I hope to be a good substitute when she is at school.
Devon Rex’ apparently like high places. Those returning from uni are over six foot so I may be ignored.
Any tips about making a house safe for a kitten?

I can highly recommend "Flat Cats" window coverings for a start. Curious cats & kittens can fall out of open windows so they're a good idea even as your girl grows up.

Open fireplaces will need to be temporarily blocked too.

Check your houseplants aren't toxic.

If you think that gap is too small for even a mouse to get in to, never mind a kitten - you're wrong!
