For my neighbours kittens she said shes been bathing them so i need to go out and get her something for them and i cant pay a fortune. She said the girl is itching but the boy not. I can get to any supermarket pharmacy.

Advantage is probably the only one that might work. I think pets at home might sell it

dementedpixie · 29/10/2018 18:22

Can she not get to a vet?

gamerchick · 29/10/2018 18:24

Nothing over the counter works.

She needs to take them to the vet to be weighed and get the proper stuff at the right dose.

Then she needs to treat the house or the problem won't go away.

dementedpixie · 29/10/2018 18:28

Advantage has the same flea killer in it as advocate, it just doesn't have the added wormer that advocate has. Indorex is supposed to be good for treating the house.

HardAsSnails · 29/10/2018 18:28

Advantage is the only non-prescription one which works.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 29/10/2018 18:29

Advantage is definitely the real deal. I get it online.

Frontline doesn't work one.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 29/10/2018 18:29

*ime, stupid phone.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/10/2018 19:00

Advantage works and is available over the counter

EachandEveryone · 29/10/2018 19:06

I don’t understand how she can say one has it and the other doesn’t

viccat · 29/10/2018 19:08

Ok, first, how old are they and what do they weigh?

Advantage is good as pp's have said but can only be used from 9 weeks of age. You can buy it online.

AVOID any other supermarket flea treatments like Bob Martin. They are useless at best and potentially dangerous.

If she has fleas, she will probably have to treat the house too. Indorex is best, and needs to be used so that cats (and humans!) are away from the room when it is treated.

viccat · 29/10/2018 19:09

Also maybe get a flea comb as a first step and check if they actually have fleas - you will see black flea dirt and potentially live fleas when you comb them through.

EachandEveryone · 29/10/2018 19:19

They are 8 months. It’s a shame they do t sell anything in supermarkets. She said no fleas in the house and I’ve been in a few times.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 29/10/2018 19:30

Why isn't she taking them to a vet?

HardAsSnails · 29/10/2018 19:32

You can buy stuff in supermarkets but it won't work so it's a waste of money. The online vet pharmacies usually have advantage on offer.

gamerchick · 29/10/2018 19:34

So have they got fleas or not?

dementedpixie · 29/10/2018 19:36

The majority of fleas live in the house in carpets/Soft furnishings. You only see a small proportion on the cat itself. Pets at home sell advantage I think

dementedpixie · 29/10/2018 19:37

If they are itching with no fleas then they need to see a vet to check why they are scratching

viccat · 29/10/2018 20:37

If they are 8 months, I also have to ask if they've been neutered yet? As it sounds like they are not registered with a vet to get flea treatment there but I might have misunderstood...

Wolfiefan · 29/10/2018 20:39

Kittens should see a vet and be weighed before being prescribed treatment.
Are they neutered?

EachandEveryone · 29/10/2018 21:10

Yes TCN came to the rescue thank goodness.

thecatneuterer · 30/10/2018 10:54

Advantage is the only thing you can buy without a prescription that works and is safe. The under 4kg one will be fine for them. Get them to pay though!

thecatneuterer · 30/10/2018 10:54

The owners that is - not the cats :)

EachandEveryone · 30/10/2018 10:58

They love them so much its just different. The little girl is still tiny but they say she eats like a horse, shes the one thats itching.

Wolfiefan · 30/10/2018 11:00

If one has fleas they will both be being bitten. And the house could be full of them. Some cats react worse to flea bites than others. Our old cat would react if we were a couple of days late flea treating her. Sad
