Best harness for kitten + travel tips

Unfortunately the cattery I booked for Christmas has called to let me know that they overbooked and there is no room at the inn for my kitten 😐 I'm just pleased to have 2 months warning, but I can't see how I can get her in anywhere. Have called every cattery easy to get to from me and they are all full.

Thankfully my family has said that I can bring her home. I've made my trip shorter and plan to confine her with her toys and tray and Feliway (sp?) plugs for the time, but I still need to get her there and back on a train. Journey is about 2 hours.

I am going to start harness training her to add an extra safety element as I have worries about her cage breaking on the train platform and her running away and hiding 😫 Can anyone recommend one for a sleek 6 month old?

Also any travel tips hugely appreciated. She's used to the tube and buses to get to the vets and tends to just settle down and go to sleep.

Do you mean putting her in a harness then in the cat box for the journey? I think would be very uncomfortable for her. Just make sure that your cat box is a good one that can be fastened up securely. If your worried about yours then just buy a new one that's decent and secure.
I use a mynwood cat jacket harness for my cat, they are made to measure and I think they are good really.

I would recommend getting a top-opening wire cat carrier from Metalcote and then using cable ties to additionally secure it closed, and cover with a large towel so she feels secure in there.

How long is your journey?

What about this? Shouldn’t spring open and you can use additional ties to keep it closed just incase

I’ve use a cat harness and a lead on mine. You can buy a regular one and adjust the straps (there’s a collar around neck and two around tummy for the jacket bit.).

You can get her use to it by simply putting it on indoors a few minutes a day at a time. Most cats feel very uncoordinated with it at first so are afraid to jump/leap. So if you’re worried she’s sprint from a cat carrier by accident, wearing a harness would be a good idea as she’s hunker down and try to hide rather than scale and jump over a six foot wall out of reach.
