Cat paw injured

Spotted one of my cats limping on her back leg just (she’s still mobile and jumping around, but I’m keeping her in)

The middle pad on her back paw has a scab on it, it’s about half the size of the pad. She’s only started limping today but I’m assuming as it’s scabbed over she did it yesterday or the day before.

Our vets are closed today, so will have to take her in tomorrow but I’m wondering if I should put anything on it? Is savlon ok for cats, if I then wrap the paw with some gauze so she cant lick it?

Just thinking it might be best to keep it as clean as possible.

When mine had her toe amputated, she managed to heft the shoulder high bandage off within 15 minutes. I panicked and rang the emergency vet, worried about an infection. They told me not to worry. I pointed out she is an indoor cat, in and out of the litter tray. I followed their advice until the next day and took her in. She was rebandaged, threw it off before we left, repeated and had it off by the time I got her home! No infection (though leg amputated due to cancer )

I’d leave it. A scab is nature’s plaster.

Another for leaving it. Keeping her inside until the vet has a look is the way I’d go.

If she was in dreadful pain she would hide away from you (my last cat was badly injured on barbed wire. Poor wee thing made it home but hid behind the sofa).

Good luck tomorrow - hopefully iits nothing too serious

Thanks everyone, I’m mainly worried about bits of litter getting into it.

Managed to get a closer look at the scab, and it looks more like a cold sore than a normal scab, looks wet if you know what I mean. There were some brown water spots on her blanket this morning, which I just put down to dirty paws before I noticed tbh, so I’m not sure if it’s seeping.

She’s been sulking as she can’t go out, but otherwise is fine and still coming over for ear rubs (and kangaroo kicking me away when she’s had enough!). I won’t touch it until we’ve seen the vets tomorrow.

Leaking brown fluid - sounds like an abscess. If she is well in herself, eating and drinking she will be fine till tomorrow.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/10/2018 19:58

How did it go?

POPholditdown · 22/10/2018 20:50

Fluffycloudland77 she’s better already, thankfully. The vet says it’s not an abscess, looks like she’s just damaged it somehow and possibly made it worse by biting at it.

She’s had an antibiotic, and has to stay in for a few days. She’s normally quite feisty but today she just let ou a little half meow at the vets, bless her.

That’s good. Poor little girl.

POPholditdown · 22/10/2018 21:10

I know, she’s had lots of cuddles and treats though! Thanks for asking x
