To ask you to talk to me about Bengal cats?

I contacted my local animal sanctuary looking to adopt a cat. They have some 13 week old kittens whose mother is Bengal and father is a black domestic shorthair. The owners of the mum cat thought they would sell for a high price and handed them over to the sanctuary when they didnt. They have their fathers colouring so are obviously mix breed. The sanctuary have advised me to do my research, as Bengal cats can be a little needy and more 'dog like'. Ive had cats all of my life but always domestic moggies. Can anyone advise? Want to know what im letting myself in for!

@Madbengalmum

I just sent a screenshot of your Bengal & Sphynx to my grown-up kids. DS2 wants a Sphynx now Grin

We had 2 full bengals, both pretty shouty. They were a bit miserable as indoor cats, unfortunately after we started letting them out the brother was run over on the road. The sister is still with us and loves having a nap with me. They are a bit more dog like than some cats and can be very naughty. The boy could open doors with handles rather than knobs and developed a habit of pooing in next doors gravel when they were in the garden to watch, was also caught in their kitchen once. They haven't managed to kill anything and bring it home yet. The girl is definitely a lot more chilled but can shout at us even when eating or washing herself.

Round here they seem to be the main offenders for wandering off, fighting, getting lost, run over. They are beautiful cats though. I’d be a bit worried about your existing cat, I’m not sure bengals make the best easy going friend. They are lovely with humans but can be difficult with other cats.

Thank you for all the love for Arthur.

GiantKitten - Arthur could be the twin of your boy. He is not so big, only 4.5Kgs, but their markings and colouring are so similar.

OlderThanAverage (I’m even olderer than average I think!)

they are very similar, though it looks as if Arthur is prettier, & certainly daintier Grin

This is my boy today. I was surprised in this to note that he has a white muzzle like Arthur’s - if you’d asked me I’d have said he doesn’t. I’m clearly very unobservant!

We have a part Bengal - we didn't know this when we got him Grin

He has more character than I've ever known in a cat - he adores DH. I recognise a lot of the slightly 'challenging' behaviour on this thread.

DH says he wants a full Bengal next. I've said NO! Grin
