Blood in poo

Just sat here and could smell the smell of a cat poo. Went to check to see if DCat had gone in her litter tray. She had, bless her, but in the poo was some blood. Maybe a teaspoon. Have bagged it up for the bin but do I need to take her to vet or just monitor? Have asked around so know vet I want, just got to register.

Seems ok in herself from what I can see - she hides a lot in the day normally and prowls at night.

Was it actually in the poo or sort of covering it? Hard to tell I know. Sometimes an anal fissure can produce a bit of blood surrounding the poo and should clear up on it's own. I would monitor for a while.

Hard to tell but looked like in the poo, with a clotted dark bit (sorry for excess details).

Have been to register at vets after school today and spoke to the lass on reception about it. She advised to monitor and give them a call if it carries on - surgery tmrw or vets are on call in emergency.

That makes me feel better, just knowing they are there if needs be. Only a 5 min journey, mind you catching her would be the tricky bit not to mention bundling her into her cat transporter.

have you changed her food recently?

KisstheTeapot14 · 22/10/2018 13:42

She has been with us just over a week - from a rescue centre. She is on Felix and Aldi pouches with some iams crunchies - the cats at the centre just ate whatever food donated (including these above). Rang and spoke to the lady I know there who said she'll check Ivy's records for anything like this previously.

Have registered at vets now and they said on Friday to monitor and come back if it keeps occurring.

Thinking I'll bag up the next sample so they can test it - there are half a dozen things that can cause a bleed - and make an appointment to get her checked out. Poor thing! She's only just starting to get less scared and now its looking like the dreaded cat carrier off to the vets. Any tips on getting a frightened cat into a basket??
:(

Sorry i'm late replying - my rescue kitten had this - apparently down to the change in cat food - we gave her cat probiotics (a capsule sprinkled on her wet food) and it sorted itself out within a few days.

Still ongoing - 3 weeks now. She seems fine in herself but have taken sample to vets yesterday for testing. Fingers crossed its something simple to solve.

My cat has this on and off, he's been diagnosed with colitis. Sometimes there is no blood at all, and then a few days a go there was a lot. I know that the next time I find one of his deposits in his litter tray there will probably be very little.

For him it's very much diet and stress based - when it got worse a couple of days ago it was when people were starting to let off all the fireworks. I recently tried to change his food from Purina One Sensitive which had controlled his condition until recently to another type which is much higher in meat and even gentler on the stomach, but the content of the bigger bag was nothing like the content of the trial bag and he's gone off it, so I'm on yet a different brand now trying to introduce it.

Sometimes steriods have helped him, but that's expensive, and it's unfair to keep taking him back to the vet for injections - he doesn't like the journey nor being in the vets. My guy is very happy in himself, he still run around like a mental, still comes for cuddles, plays, he's not in pain. Have you heard back from your vet yet?

KisstheTeapot14 · 05/11/2018 18:14

Spoke to vets today, some results back but not all, so they will call me when everything back. She seems perfectly fine in herself - does not appear in pain - plays and eats fine, purring away and comes for head bumps (after DS aged 9 has gone to bed - she is still shy around him. He has dyspraxia but is trying so hard to sit still and help her be more confident) . She is very nervous - we try to minimise any stress. She has been OK with fireworks but just jumpy around people and noise in house.
Will post back when more news breaks.

Thanks everyone.

Still ongoing...any tips? am trying various food like James Wellbeloved and Lily's Kitchen. I'm not sure its made any difference tbh. Will keep going as I know from humans with colitis it can take time to settle even with 'good' food (no grain etc)
