We’re feeding our 6 month old kittens 3 times each day. Ultimately aiming for twice a day when they are older. When will they be ok with that?
Thanks for advice, I am new to cat rearing!

When will they be ok with that? Um. Never. Ours expect a constantly replenished food bowl.

As if to prove a point, DCat1 has just popped in, found a 75% full bowl of dry food, and 10% full bowl of wet food; whinged considerably about the total lack of food, tried both being cute and when that failed, fucked off over the fence to next door. He's already eaten most of 2 pouches and tried to drink the milk from the kids cereal as they were eating breakfast. And I would bet money on him raiding the dishwasher while I was in the shower as well.

Ours graze too - we just make sure the bowls are replenished as required.

Haha! Soooo, do cats not overeat and get fat??

Mine are not fatties - but they do go out a lot.
They get through about three sachets of Felix (posh version) each plus a bit of dry food, each day. (Plus a regular supply of rodents)

Thanks everyone!

I feed mine when she asks but generally that is three times a day, mid morning, late afternoon and bedtime. She has a weighed amount of dry food each day so she can't overeat.
I would get them into the habit of not eating first thing if you can though, so the aren't waking you for breakfast at 6am!

OlderThanAverageforMN · 19/10/2018 14:17

Good luck with that!
Mine eats between 4 and 6 pouches a day, plus a bowl of IAMS, plus a mouse a day. Also, gets all the off cuts of meat at dinner time.
He does spend a lot of time outside though.

Vinorosso74 · 19/10/2018 20:53

We feed ours the same amount each day but one day it may be more "sittings" than another depending on how much we care at home. He is a greedy thing!

Vinorosso74 · 19/10/2018 20:59

Are not care. We care each day not just some. Time for a drink.....

Badcat666 · 19/10/2018 21:05

oh how I laugh at the "feeding suggestions" on the side of cat food. I think my new kitten is actually hollow or half kitten/ half stomach. I'm sure poo's that size can't come out of a kitten that small.....

Sometimes it seems like endless amounts of food for one of my cats. Today she's had 4 sachets of food, a small tin of tuna and dried food. She has dried food in her bowl all day long. She's normally a demon for treats but has suddenly stopped wanting them. She screams and screams until she's fed. My other girl eats less, probably 2 sachets that she licks but doesn't finish , and she also has dried food available all day.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 19/10/2018 23:04

Ours gets a pouch first thing in the morning, usually around 7am, then another about 6.30pm. She has dry food constantly available, and usually gets some ham in the morning when DP makes his sandwiches. She gets Felix Goody Bag treats on top and goes nuts for them. At the weekend we sometimes give her a third pouch late at night to try to stop her climbing on our heads at 6am - this has variable results. She flips between racing madly around the garden and lying about sleeping, but on balance is pretty active.
