I'm in bits, got home from a horrible day at work to a message from a vets who had her brought in. Hit by a car that didn't stop, lovely lady took her in and she was gone in minutes, didn't suffer. We had two girls, sisters who we had from kittens, they were 5. My daughter will be devastated, she's 8. I've not told her yet as I can't stop crying.

Flowers I am so very sorry OP, this is so so sad. I’m glad she didn’t suffer. She is forever chasing mice now over the rainbow. It is so hard when you loose a pet, they have such amazing personalities and are a massive part of the family. Sending big hugs x

I’m so sorry for your loss @Youcantscaremeihavechildren...there’s nothing I can say to make you feel better right now; it’s a bereavement and you’ve lost a member of your family.
I have 2 cats, girls, sisters and I dread something like this.
Cry all you need, soak your pillow but be kind to yourself.
Can you tell your daughter tomorrow?

So sorry for your loss OP losing a pet is horrible

Ilovetolurk · 18/10/2018 22:19

So sorry 💐 for you and your DD.

IHeartKingThistle · 18/10/2018 22:25

This happened to us in the summer, I'm so sorry. Our other cat did go out looking for her; it took him a few days to stop being confused I think which was really sad, but it was honestly only a few days. He is now a much more affectionate and cuddly cat and has been a great comfort, especially for the DC.

Thanks all, I've spent most of the day crying, just can't stop. I'm going to look a mess tomorrow. I'm going to tell her tomorrow, bless her she was so happy to be finished school and off to her cubs tonight I couldn't tell her. She slept on her bed every night, they've grown up together. I just don't know what to do about burying her or not, her face was messed up but I guess I could put her in a box, dd could write a note or put it something in it maybe.. We have a garden to bury her. She was a hunter, loved bringing in rabbits. I feel awful, I saw her this morning on dds bed and I told her to leave the cat alone and get a move on, as we were late again. I can't remember the last time I sat down and stroked her, I've been so busy. She always laid on the stairs right in my way when I was rushing somewhere.

am so sorry. there are no words to ease your pain tonight. I know, I have been there too. I have had cats all my life . I had to help a beautiful cat that had been involved in an accident on the road today. the driver did not stop. I smoothed and talked to the cat as if it were my own baby and transported her to a vet. i wish i could tell the owners she was cared for at that terrible time, but i don't know who they are. i know they will be grieving tonight. am so sorry you have had to suffer this too.

hartof · 18/10/2018 22:38

So so sorry

BerylStreep · 18/10/2018 23:50

I'm crying for you. It's such an awful thing to happen. We had the same over 2 years ago and it was the first time my DC had ever experienced loss.

Hold your DD tight and try to dig out wonderful photos of your cat together so that you can remember her well.

My DC still put flowers on our cat's grave. Look after yourself. Xx

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 18/10/2018 23:56

Thanks all, I'm still up but need to sleep. I don't think it's dunk in really. I'm going yo get her a photo in a nice frame for her room. I'm dreading it, she's going to be distraught.

I'm so sorry Hun!

I don't understand why cars just don't stop! Accidents happen. But you never know if you stopped and took it to the vets, there might be a chance of saving him/her. I've had cats run out into the road numerous times, in front of me and touch wood I was well aware at all times. There was one that was running across the roundabout a while back and I was so scared a car was going to run it down but thankfully they didn't!

This has to stop. We have to stop and report it if we run over a dog so why not a cat? They have a life too!

I'm sorry once again :( x

Zoflorabore · 19/10/2018 06:33

So sorry lovely Sad

I've had many cats and when they go it's just heartbreaking.
Your little one will have known just how much you loved her so please try not to feel guilty over being busy.

My dd is almost 8 and we lost one of ours this year. She was very upset but we talk about him a lot which helps.
His brother is still here which gives us some comfort.

Another one who thinks it's bloody awful that one can leave a cat in the road and drive on. Thank god for the lovely lady who found her.

Thinking of you xx

Vinorosso74 · 19/10/2018 08:19

How awful. I'm so sorry Flowers
I agree it's awful that you can just drive off and leave a poor cat in the road. On the other hand at least people like the lady who found her care.

AnneElliott · 19/10/2018 08:25

So sorry op. We've got 4 and not lost one yet, and it is something I dread. Glad that someone did take her to the vets. There are some nice people in the world- but can't understand why the driver wouldn't stop.

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 20/10/2018 11:50

Thanks all, I'm hoi g to the vet in a minute to collect her, will tell dad then as she was so shattered with the end of term yesterday and hadn't noticed yet that she wasn't around. We've got a place for her and I'm an art teacher so brought some clay home so dd can make a little cat to put on her grave, might keep her busy. Her sister doesn't seem to have noticed yet but they were both quite independent off out catching things usually so it's normal for them to see each other rarely, although they hot on well and did curl up together. Hopefully she'll be OK on her own, we both are out 4 days a week so she'll be alone then. Agree about the person that hit her, I hit a cat once when it ran under my wheels and I was devastated, couldn't find the owner (before microchips) and felt awful for days. The vet and the woman who found her have been lovely.

Sending you some support here too. Feeling particularly able to relate to this as I was the finder of one such just two weeks ago. Sadly, it had been hit but not marked, him and his litter brother were only less than one yr olds, and I have seen his brother visiting all the spot of his rip bro.

I would take footprints on a nice card to keep and maybe a little snipping of hair? We have this for one of my DC who lost their dcat, and its been much treasured. They are in a special photo frame keepsake.
RIP little kitty xx
