Cat peeing on my baby's things

One of my cats is peeing on my 8 month olds stuff. It's been happening since he was born but I just can't get to the bottom of it.
I have 2 cats, one male and female. Both neutured. The male one is the culprit!
I've got 2 litter trays that I change daily. He's been to the vets so it's not a health issue. Vet says it will go in time but that's not very helpful and 8 months down the line doesn't seem to be stopping. This morning it was in my baby's toy box so I've had to throw out so much!
Does any one have any advice?

Try a pet remedy diffuser. It might calm him down a bit.

Obviously looks like a territory thing. Put a litter tray near the baby box if you can. Or have a separate litter box somewhere for each cat.
Get someone to tire the cat out with lots of play and one on one attention.
Google Jackson Galaxy on YouTube for ideas.

I have a feliway plug in and I do have 2 cats litter trays as I have 2 cats. Can't really put a cat litter tray next to the baby toy box.

I don't know your set up @catmummy1 . Obviously I don't think you should have it right next to the toy box.
If you don't have the time or energy, someone else in the house should focus on playing with the cat to tire it out.

I'd put out an additional tray for the time being; also try different litters in each to see if it's that that's putting him off. I find Professional Classic an excellent litter and not had a cat dislike it yet.
You could also try litter attractant.

To disccourage him going in the same places again make sure it's cleaned thoroughly with an enzymatic cleaner or vodka will work too, avoid bleach and vinegar as they can have the opposite effect!

Using a sheet of kitchen foil over the toy box should help to discourage him from going in those areas as they don't like it on their paws. Might also be worth trying a spray deterrent to keep him out of certain areas where the baby's things are, They are pricey though! www.amazon.co.uk/PetSafe-Deterrent-Effective-Avoidance-Training/dp/B075GMTYQS/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=cat+spray+deterrent&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1539605422&sr=8-6

Taking all advice on board, thank you. I think the cause is me having a baby, he's had 8 months to adjust now but it seems to be worsening.
He does get played with and o also have another cat, she's a few years though but they are smitten with each other.
I will try different litters etc but I think it's more of a territorial thing towards the baby as it's always on his stuff. Have had the plug ins since he was born.

I'm sure it will be due to the changes of the new arrival in the family. It can hopefully be sorted though, I know it's incredibly frustrating to live with and can be soul destroying especially when you're tired and stressed yourself.

catmummy1 · 15/10/2018 21:51

Yeah that's what I'm assuming fenneltea. Just hoped after 8 months it would of calmed down. I'm very patient and forgiving where my cats are concerned but not when it comes to the baby's things. I can't cope with his things being destroyed with wee.

Have you got enough plug ins? One won’t be enough I don’t think. On the box it says how much of an area they cover.

RiverTam · 15/10/2018 21:56

What do you mean by stuff - what stuff? Can you move this stuff?

catmummy1 · 16/10/2018 17:05

I have 2 plug ins, the cats have their own area just for them I have one in there and one in the main room.
I can't really move the stuff, I don't want to live with having to keep everything out of the cats reach. He's wee'd on blankets, the play mat, toy box, he's wee'd in cot when he got into the bedroom so had to replace mattress. He's good in the sense he knows he's not to lay on the baby's stuff and sleep on it .. Just seems to sneak on it to wee.
