Cat suddenly weeing outside litter box

A few days ago my 9 month old boy had a wee under my bed, I cleaned it up and thought maybe it was just an accident but then I found a puddle of wee in the spare room the same day. I was woken up this morning to the sound of him scratching the floor, ran into the back room and there are huge puddles of wee behind a chest of drawers.

He's still pooping in his litter tray but there's no wee in there. He's also doing really unusual meows and seems really down and more aggressive than usual

I've got a vets appointment for Wednesday but in the meantime does anybody know what it might be or what I can do for him? I'm so worried

He may have a bladder problem. Take him to the vet, as it can be fatal in male cats. Mine had something similar last year. It is known as FELINE IDIOPATHIC CYSTITIS. Google it.

Otherwise, has another cat strayed into your cat's territory? Any changes at home? Kids, pets, etc?

I'd ring the vet to be on the safe side.

As the previous poster suggested you need to rule out a blockage as this can be very serious very quickly in male cats. If he deteriorated at all, looks in pain, vomits or struggles to wee you need to see a vet immediately even if it is the middle of the night.

Personally I'd try to bring your appointment forward to tomorrow but I appreciate that may not be possible.

Are you keeping the litter tray really clear? I've had cats who won't get into their tray unless it is very clean.

@startingafresh1 @Lynne1Cat

thanks for your replies. He hasn't done it again since I posted. I shut the spare room door and put a litter tray on the landing, he has been going in the downstairs litter tray since.

He's only 7 months and he's extremely needy ( I don't mind of course ), he follows me room to room and he sleeps right outside my bedroom door every night so I was wondering maybe if he was just going in the spare room because he didn't want to go far from my bedroom?

I've ordered some cystaid that arrived today and unfortunately there's no appointments sooner than Wednesday but I'm hoping everything will be fine. If he does have some kind of UTI are they easy to treat?

That should say 9 not 7, fat fingers!

And yes the litter tray was clean, he's just like that too and one day I forgot to empty it for a day and he did a poo right infront of the litter tray

Glad he seems better, wonder if he took a dislike to the litter tray in its old location for some reason? Although given that he miaowed when weeing it does sound as though he may have been uncomfortable.

I'm laughing at the carefully placed poo in front of the litter tray that his servant had failed to empty!

I think a regular UTI is relatively easy to treat. A blockage is a more serious matter, especially in a male cat when it can be fatal. As far as I understand though it does tend to make them extremely unwell- so if he seems no worse it's less likely to be that I think (but I'm only guessing, do see your vet).

Let us know how you get on.

Keep him confined to just the one room for now if at all possible - or at least close off upstairs rooms etc. You can't have him using your house as a giant litter tray as it'll become ingrained and he'll do it out of habit

And yes , see what vet says
