Weight loss. Causes?

I’ve just taken PicklePig to the vet because he’s itchy & scratching. Vet couldn’t find any fleas & has given him an anti-inflammatory injection.
I asked him to weigh PicklePig because he seems a bit thinner these days.
In April he weighed 4.1kg, today he weighs 3.65kg, so quite a large weight loss.
He’s booked in for another weigh in in 4 weeks time & if he’s still losing they’ll do some blood tests.
He seems ok, he’s incredibly lazy, sleeps a huge amount but that’s nothing new. He’s eating ok, throws up once or twice a week but again, he’s always done that. Doesn’t appear to be drinking any more than usual.
Of course, I stupidly googled and now I’m convinced he has cancer.
Vet couldn’t feel any lumps etc
Any ideas? Reassurance? PicklePig is 13, and he’s my baby boy. I don’t know what I’d do without him. Even typing this is making me tearful.

At that age, hyperthyroidism or renal disease could be a likely cause. Only blood tests will tell.

Try not to worry about cancer until everything else is ruled out at least.

He did mention hyperthyroidism. Wouldn’t that make PicklePig more active? He certainly isn’t!

It’s silly. I work in healthcare. If this was someone talking about a person I’d be all pragmatic and saying wait for the test results etc. But he’s the best cat in the world! He’s my therapy cat.
I know it’s daft.

Possibly although my cat wasn't particularly more active when she was diagnosed hyperT. Hers was diagnosed very early. She was starting to lose weight too while eating and drinking well.

Thanks @viccat. I’ll try not to worry. He seems absolutely fine. Eating well, eating his usual treats, sleeping all the time as usual.
He’s such a daft old thing but I love him so much.
Is your cat ok now? Is it just a daily pill?

I have a ginger girl, also now 13, she has always been small, but quite chunky.

She lost quite a bit of weight, while eating well. The vet carried out full blood test, kidneys, liver and thyroid all normal. Was advised to monitor and check if lost more weight.
I have started feeding her kitten food which apparently has more protein and she has now put on a pound.
I think hers is just old age and needs a bit more support now.

Happened to my ginger boy..he lost weight fast but he was 18years old..he had diabetes

Both of mine have hyperthyroidism and the only symptom was losing weight and being a bit more hungry!

The good news is, one of them has been on the medication over 2 years now so they can live happily with it.
