The best tinned cat food?

My lot get through lots of pouches but from an environmentally friendly point of view I'm thinking of switching to tins as they can be recycled.
Any thoughts?

Whatever pouches you regularly buy will have tinned versions surely? My girl eats Felix pouches but you make a good point about the wastage. It's scary just how much throwaway junk we use every single day. For miss GreedyCat it can be 4 pouches a day! I may have to rethink how I feed her too now. Problem is, she won't eat food left in an opened covered tin that's left out and won't touch a refrigerated tin. I thought I was doing well saying no to straws but now I feel guilty cos of my wasteful cat food choice now. Crap. Confused

PlateOfBiscuits · 03/10/2018 11:02

I was stressing about the amount of waste recently too. The pouches I buy have the ‘green dot’ on them so I feel very very very slightly less bad.

Thrive. It’s quite expensive though. It comes in small tins. If I don’t use a full one it I put it into a sealed plastic container and leave it at room temperature and it’s deemed acceptable by witchcat a few hours later. He’s been fed the same thing for the last three years, only the chicken varieties, and hasn’t ever turned his nose up at it.

PristineCondition · 03/10/2018 11:09

My cats will only eat Aldi tins.

Cheap dates😀

Beingginger · 03/10/2018 11:16

Mine eats Encore, I swapped to tinned food for the same reason.

Vinorosso74 · 03/10/2018 11:41

Another Thrive fan here (cat not me). It's a complete wet food and not in jelly or gravy. It actually looks like what it is too.

EachandEveryone · 03/10/2018 12:15

Sainsbury’s also do the little tins for 60p mine like them

HoraceWimpIsThisYourLife · 03/10/2018 12:45

Another vote for thrive! V good quality but it is pricey.
I feed alongside a high quality biscuit so not too expensive

glitterbiscuits · 03/10/2018 13:03

Thanks. We have some Thrive tins on Amazon subscribe and save but as I have lots of cats ( not 6 as that would mean I'm a cat lady)
We get through lots.
I'm hoping to find a decent large tin.
They like Felix sachets so I could try the tinned version of that as a start.

Have a look on ZooPlus, most of the European brands come in tins. Animonda Carny, Grau etc. are good options.

HoraceWimpIsThisYourLife · 03/10/2018 15:44

What is the subscribe and save? Is it cheaper than Zooplus?

Thank you for starting this thread OP. I have an elderly cat who was having problems eaing his usual biscuits so the vet suggested we try wet food. He does like Felix as good as it looks sachets, and funnily enough, after his entire life of hating chicken kibble, he loves the chicken and all the meat ones. The fish ones, not so much, and really won't even eat the tuna!
I have sent off for a sample of the Thrive, just email them. I shall let you know what Mr Fussy Pants thinks of it.

viccat · 04/10/2018 10:49

I also feed some Pure to mine from purepetfood.co.uk - it's dehydrated and you add water to prepare it. It's fairly expensive but worth it for the quality - and in terms of environmental credentials it comes in a plastic bag inside a cardboard box - a lot less packaging than pouches or tins. Mine have one Pure meal a day for their dinner along with other wet and dry food for breakfast.

carbuckety · 04/10/2018 15:24

Good luck! I have approximately 50 cans of cat food ( all kinds from supermarket to posh stuff) which my cats refuse to touch! I've been trying to switch from Felix ( which was the one they had at the rescue years ago) and they just get snooty and walk away. One started to lose weight. If anyone knows where to get Felix in cans I'd buy it. Now trying to find a local rescue who can collect the cans as I'm housebound

carbuckety · 04/10/2018 15:26

I mean the exact type 'as good as it gets' as the normal Felix tins also rejected

viccat · 04/10/2018 16:59

carbuckety if you're in London, the rescue where I volunteer can collect donations within a reasonable distance.

carbuckety · 04/10/2018 22:33

viccat I'm not. Sadly in a rural area which makes it hard. But a neighbour is thinking of adopting a cat so might be able to take it. Can't bear to see it wasted!

Beaverhausen · 05/10/2018 07:59

My strays are loving Zooplus Bozita and you can wash out the cartons and put it in with the cardboard and Animonda carny just reordered them 24 of the small cans it is only £14.

But my epi baby is still eating Gourmet and currently B&M box of 42 for £18 but I always wash my pouches out.

AnnaMagnani · 05/10/2018 08:06

Animonda Carny from Zooplus. They need such tiny portions as well compared to Whiskas etc as it's all meat. Was more popular with mine than Bozita where they haad a tendency to lick the jelly off the chunks.

carbuckety · 05/10/2018 14:50

annaMagnani I have 22 cans of the bloody stuff in the garage! My spoiled babies won't touch it. Damn them

EachandEveryone · 05/10/2018 18:25

It’s because it’s too hardcore. Mine like abit of sauce or sugar
