Feeding 5 month old kitten

Hello knowledgeable litter tray folks. I am new to cats and probably clueless so please be kind...

We've had a 5 month old kitten for a couple of weeks. He's a big boy (not fat, just big - if he was a person he'd be tall!) and will eat any wet food put in front of him. I always put out some dry food too but he's not very interested in it although will graze at it a bit.

His foster carer put him on adult food (Felix) when she saw how well he was eating, so that's what we've been giving him too. However, having now read a bit about adult vs kitten food I'm wondering whether she did the right thing as i understand that kitten food is more calorific. He has 3-4 pouches a day (I added the 4th feed 2 days ago last thing as he's always starving first thing.) His poo was a bit soft this morning so now I wonder whether he's had too much and I should have stuck with 3 pouches. I am a total sucker when he puts on his hungry face! And given that he'll ignore his dry food I'm half wondering whether he's pulling a fast one Grin

Should I put him on kitten food? Or stick to what I'm doing now with 3 pouches? Also do you usually mix dry food with wet or keep it separate?

The thing is with food like felix it’s not very good quality so you end up racing through it. It’s full of sugar and cereal so not long lasting energy.

If I was you I would tempt him on to a grain free food with a higher protein content and you might find he is satisfied for longer.

Ps kitten photos are always welcome!

And thanks for your reply! Ok so if I find a better quality brand (any recommendations?) should I be buying the kitten version rather than the adult cat one?

Is he neutered yet? They need fewer calories when they have been done. At that age mine still had kitten food though. Think they were closer to 8 months when they got adult food rather than kitten food (were neutered at 4 months).

Mine liked AVA kitten food from pets at home which is grain free

That's interesting, I didn't know that. He hasn't been neutered yet but has an appointment soon.
