My old lady with the dodgy eye and stinky aroma suddenly has a swelling by her eye. Vet said she had dodgy teeth and I fear it’s an abscess. My husband is away and I’ve work tomorrow but am going to beg vets to see her tomorrow. I don’t know what they’ll do at 19. Do I need to prepare the children for the worst? Have s pic but might be upsetting. Has just gone like this tonight

I think it will come down to what’s best for her. If it is an abscess and they can drain it easily and without causing her too much distress, I’m sure they’d prefer to take that option. Fingers crossed it’s straight forward but at 19, I realise it might not be.

Hand hold from me.

Vet said she may not withstand anaesthetic for a teeth clean so I’m worried. Don’t know how boys will react if the worst happens but at 19 I’m realistic about how it might happen soon

Poor old lady, I hope the vet can help her, hand hold for you here too.

Try not to worry until you've seen vet. How old are your boys? Our old girl was PTS almost a year ago and DD was 7 at the time but I managed to explain that vet could stop Dcat from suffering as she couldn't get better. Luckily DD has met vet lots of times and knew she liked our old girl so was trusting of her-she was upset but handled it with more maturity than I expected.

Tell the vet she needs immediate attention. I'm sure they'll see her. Hope it goes well.

Hand hold from me. Poor old girl. The vet will see her asap for that. Whatever happens you have given her a lovely long life but I know how upsetting it is. We lost our 15 year old cat in July. We had her from birth and ds 30 and me were in tears as we laid her to rest.
Hoping the vet can help. The old ones are a worry but full of personality too x

I’m going in half an hour to the vets. She’s asleep now but was yowling a lot earlier when my friend popped in to drop something off. She had breakfast - raced to the bowl with my other cat and ate so hopefully it won’t come to it but if it does then it’s a long life for a cat. Not a bad age. I feel like a child though. Like I’m not grown up enough to make such trips. I need to get a grip. I just wish it could be a drop off to sleep death when she goes but I realise this doesn’t happen often. I was lucky my old cat had a little tremble then that was it. She was 17. We’ll see

Well she’s had antibiotics and anti inflammatory medicine but if it flares back up it’s time to pts

Glad to hear you've gone down that route, at least if it's something simple you've given her that chance she deserves. The last few months weren't easy to go through with my two, but I made the most of that time so try and enjoy the time you do have.
