Non litter mate kittens

Hello

Just wondering if anyone has any advice as to whether this is a good idea or not.

I’d been intending to adopt two rescue kittens in the near future ( on rescue wait list). In the meantime I have ended up with another 12 1/2 week old kitten ( who is very lovely!).

I’ve always had two cats growing up but always littermates. I’m wondering if it would work/benefit the cats if I still adopted a other kitten? Or if he is better staying as just a single as it would t be his littermate ( who I know are already bonded).

Any wise advice welcome!

Yes it should be fine, they are usually extremely easy to introduce at a young age. We just combined two litters of foster kittens at mine and after a few hours of hissing, they were all sleeping together and washing each other the next day.

CP told me they try to find a buddy for each cat they have. My two aren't litter mates but are inseparable.

Thanks both, will definitely consider getting another then.

Cats don't need to be litter mates to become mates. They just need to be together from a young age. Not sure it's known what the cut off age is where this bond doesn't happen between cats.

(if that makes sense!!)

My two girls are littermatea and still hate each other. Shock I would say it’s much more about temperament. (and not being a stroppy tortie! Grin)

To be fair I've had cats not kittens move in together they were fine took a couple of weeks for her to integrate herself bringing the boys mice and stuff but they eventually let her move in strangely I was not consulted although it was technically my bloody house!

I'm fostering 3 16 week old kittens. I got 1, then 2 more from another litter.

They were funny with each other for a couple of days but now they just behave like they've known each other forever

@Wolfiefan two torture girls and a wolfhound - you certainly like a challengeWink

I agree a lot is personality - I guess I’m wondering if the kitten will benefit from a playmate or not if not a littermate. If he is better as an only then I would just leave it. But it sounds like they can integrate.

Typo - tortie girls!

No. No typo. They are torrid (what my phone corrects it to!) torture kitties. Grin
As kittens it was easier to have two as they wore each other out! Now they are older and not keen on each other it’s manageable as they’re outside during the day and there’s room to have their own space when they’re in.
