Do they need a 6 monthly check-up

Just got a rescue cat - first cat, he's about 4 years old and neutered. Looking at prices for insurance and vet pet-plans. The plans with the vets seem to include 6 monthly checkups - was wondering how necessary this is for a healthy young cat? Would it be safe to go for a yearly checkup and not subscribe to the vet?
I'm new to this so any advice gratefully received.

And advantage only treats fleas, not worms. I use stronghold plus monthly and it treats fleas and some worms. Then every 6 months they get profender which covers for tapeworm I think

While a cat is young, I would only take for a check up if I had any concerns or for their annual vaccinations (where my old and new vets have also carried out a mini check over).

Whether you take out the scheme or not, if you've got a new cat (whose history you don't totally know), I'd have a check up in the first couple of months just in case there's something not obvious like a heart murmur which couldn't be the end of the world but good to record how bad it is at the present.

I know some people think vaccinations should reduce as they get older. Just wanted to say, we're going back many years, but my parents let the vaccinations slip (nearly a year). Cattery didn't ask for certificates and one of them caught cat flu. Within three weeks we'd lost 3 out of 4 cats, so for this reason I've always said mine would have an annual vaccination without fail.
