My new cat got out in the night

Arghhhh thankfully all is well now but I had thought I'd not heard her charging round the house in the night as usual and got up at 6 to feed her and she was nowhere to be found I then realised an upstairs window onto an extension roof was open and realised she must have climbed out of there and got out . Then went in the garden and called her and out she popped although it took a few attempts to get her in ....quite scary but now dh is saying she clearly needs to be let out - we've only had her a week and a half but she's 3 and very tame - would I be ok to let her out when I'm at home for short bursts ? She's full of energy to and stares longingly out of the window

Would she tolerate a harness? Then you could take her out a couple of times a day to familiarise her with her new territory.

I'm hoping that as she was outside for possibly hours and stayed close to home that she may have already familiarised herself with the back garden? We are fairly well enclosed and it's a good sized space

Noo don't let her out yet. She won't have scent marked your whole house yet and there's a chance she could get lost. You can help speed up the process by encouraging her to rub her face on a cloth and then rub that round the house on doorways, edges of tables etc. Play with her lots and that should help her feel a little happier. You can also buy puzzle feeders on Amazon which help to keep them occupied. We were told 3 weeks. It is hard when they're desperate to go out but it's only another week and a half x

We let ours out sooner but only because she cannot get out of our garden. If she could have got out I’d have waited longer to be on the safe side.

We were told eight weeks!

I waited four weeks. A week and a half is not long enough.
