How can I stop our serial killer cat....

Am really fed up of the cat killing stuff (birds, mice, squirrels). He wears a bell and is locked in at night but that doesn't stop him. He's very much an outdoors cat (is miserable if kept in all day and even goes out in the rain). Is there anything we can do? I'm all for cat proofing the garden but dp says it would be cruel, unsightly and probably wouldn't stop our athletic cat....

Sometimes a 2nd bell can help. They can learn to move without the bell making a sound but it's much harder to do with 2 bells jostling each other

Thanks Spilled will try that. Am finding it really hard to like the cat at the moment... But dp and dd still adore him so doubt he notices!

Sneak up behind him as he is ambushing his tea and spray with water. He may start to associate his murderous hobby with getting wet before too long. We used to send ddog out and let her chase the birds away!

Op I feel your pain I have a cat that is constantly bringing me presents. I'll be following this thread with interest.

dameofdilemma · 24/09/2018 16:38

He's doing it while we're at work and dd is at school....think he likes to have a present waiting for her.... Can anyone recommend a very loud bell??

Sprinkler system?

My cat has a collar (quick release) with a bell - I thought this would help prevent kills but I’ve seen him stalking absolutely soundlessly- they can learn to move without jingling!!!! I think I’ll try the second bell as Spilledmycoffee suggested......

I bought a falconery bell for our cat's collar. It does not bother him and so far so good no more little bird bodies. He also used to bring in live mice which terrified me. You can buy the bells on Amazon and Ebay

Both our cats have several ball their collars and it has drastically reduced how much they hunt.

Wolfiefan · 24/09/2018 18:52

Cats shouldn’t wear collars. Cat proof the garden.
