Dingleberries!

Today I adopted two cats from the CPL. On the way home I noticed a smell of poo, I assumed one of them had had a nervous poo. Fine, easy to sort out.
Got the cats home and noticed that the long haired one had a huge lump of dried poo on his hind quarters. Luckily he is very cuddly so let me hold him tight whilst I snipped it off (it was about the size of a large grape!).

But still the smell lingers.... On closer inspection there is still a tiny bit left but I can't get to it as its so small and I can't get him to stay still long enough!

Any suggestions please??

Use a warm damp cloth to gently wipe the area, it will soften after a while and wipe away . to keep him still get someone to feed him cat milk of their finger / teaspoon.

If it's small, he will probably get it out himself pretty quickly, otherwise damp cloth and an old comb usually works. Keep an eye on him over the next few days, it may just be a one off due to a new diet or stress if he's a rescue (our long hair had it happen once when she had a stomach bug and her poo was softer but doesn't normally when the poo is firm). If it's ongoing, you may need to keep the fur around his bum trimmed to reduce the likelihood of it happening (be very careful of his man bits as they can be hard to see in amongst all the fluff!) The 'target bum' look isn't attractive but much more pleasant for everyone than repeated poo smears from them trying to remove the dingleberries.

When you go to the vet, ask for a hygiene trim.

Thanks everyone!
This morning I came down and it has gone, Huzzah! I'm assuming he sorted himself out. He smells much better Grin
They have both (I think) used the litterbox and eaten the food I put down, so hopefully they're settling down Smile
