New cat not come home 2nd time going out

Hi, I recently adopted two 7 years old male cats. We let them outside yesterday no problem and they come back, but this morning one of them went out about 8 ish and hasn't been home since! The rain has been horrendous today so I am worried! He's not had any breakfast so I'm hoping he will be back for tea.

Does anyone else have any similar experiences?

Thanks
:)

No, hopefully he's hiding under a bush if it's raining. If he's on dry, dry shaking some at the door. My two recognise the sounds of pouches, so again try rustling them, as well as calling. I'd also knock on neighbours doors asking if they can check their garden in case he's sheltering. Also, I've read people suggesting to put something with his scent on outside as it may attract him back.

Thanks for the advice! I've kept his food bowl on the kitchen window sill with the window open and keep shaking his treat box but still no sign Sad I will check the neighbours when my bf comes home.

Poor thing I bet he's dead soggy , and my little girl just keeps shouting for him 😢

How long have you had him?

annamcox28 · 21/09/2018 16:25

A week but I couldn't keep him in any longer he kept crying to go out so yesterday he went out for about an hour then come back home and we kept him in all night. This morning I opened the window a little and he must have got out because he's no where in the house and I though because he came back yesterday he would come back this morning too but he hasn't.

Cats often go exploring their territory for about 24 hours when they are first let out. I'm confident he'll be back. That said, you should have kept him in for three weeks. You don't have to give in because a cat cries. You do what is best for the cat despite their protests.

Okay thanks for your help! ☺️ and I have been walking him round the garden on a lead prior to letting him out. The lady I got them off said he's very clever and adapts very well as he has had other homes before. Like I said before he went out yesterday and came back after an hour hence why I let him out today

Well yes, it does all rather depend on the cat. Don't worry, he'll saunter in eventually.

Okay , fingers crossed. thank you :)

Sprinkle your hoover dust around the perimeter of your house, might not help as he's only known you a week but worth a try - hope he comes home soon!

Yep, mine did the same the first couple of times we let him out. He came back home fine after 24 hours of more, can’t remember now how long.

I think it was just excitement at being let out after a long period being cooped up.

You’ve every reason to be confident yours will come back safe and sound.

annamcox28 · 21/09/2018 20:04

He is home! I'm so relieved!

Brilliant - little bugger, at least you know he can find his way home, he's obviously happy with you :)

annamcox28 · 21/09/2018 20:28

He's just devoured his food bless him! It's strange because his brother is here with us too and he doesn't even want to go out and explore! Very much opposites! Thank you for everyone's advice SmileGrin

Hooray! Give him lots of yummy treats so that he realises he is onto a good thing with you.

annamcox28 · 21/09/2018 23:22

I fed him and gave him some treats and lots of tummy rubs! Grin

Great news. The little bugger!!!!

ifonly4 · 22/09/2018 11:14

That's such good news.

Personally, I'd have kept him in for a bit longer, but now he's got used to going out it's hard to go back. He may have stayed out longer due to sheltering from the rain or be the type of cat that loves being outside.

If they aren't already microchipped, I'd get them done.
