when to start feeding adult food?

My kitten is 7 months old now, he eats a mixture of dry food and pouches and I always get him the kitten food. They say 2-12 months on, is 12 months when he should start moving on to " adult " food? He's got extremely big over the last month to adult size and is becoming more and more hungry so I'm wondering if it's too early to start adult food?

He's already having 3 pouches a day + a bowl of dry food
Thanks

Is he neutered? Is he an indoor or outdoor cat? I did move to adult food a bit earlier (but not as early as 7 months) as mine were neutered and their calorie requirements reduced. I did give high meat grain free dry food though. What food is he eating?

When my cat got neutered at 7 months, I changed for over to adult food as didn't need as high calorie as the kitten food, don't change overnight or may totally reject it.

I put down half portion dry kitten food in one double bowl and the other side half portion of adult, (it didn't look much) she also got her usual wet food morning and night as well and of course, treats,

Over about 10 days the kitten food was phased out until it was gone and she was all on adult dry food, she now eats wet and dry, wet sachet morning and night but has some dry down with water at all times.

She doesn't go hungry. She is big, healthy and has a great coat. She is indoor / outdoor

She now eats Purina one (currently on offer in Tesco/ Asda) for 800g bags and loves cat soup,

He might be eating a lot as he's been growing. I understand there are more calories in kitten food, so I'd only do it at the moment if your concerned he's getting a little fat.

I have a 13 year old ginger, had lost a lot of weight, has had full blood test, all well. Just told to monitor to see if she loses anymore. I have put her back on kitten food, as higher protein, seems to be working, she is filling out a bit now. Which very happy about, its not great stroking a fur skeleton!
