cat had 3 kittens

my partner was given a 6 month old female cat 2 years ago and told at the time she has been spaied, looks like she wasnt. he has kept her as a indoor cat but surprise suprise she got out one afternoon. about 5 weeks later he noticed that she was getting a bellly when he was rubbing her belly (her fav thing) and realised hen he felt the sacks and said a few words i will not repeat on here. so he took her to the vets to confirm and they said it was a litter of 3 and growing ok.

so when it got closer to the time we set up a few beds in quiet places and she picked the one in his office (runs own company and works from home).

so 3 days ago about 9pm he noticed her crying in his office and went in to check on her and there she was with the 3 kittens all ok (thank god).

We all decided to keep the kittens (dont want to sperate them from each other or there mother). all will be fixed when able to.

She is fine with my partner going near her or the kittens but if i go near her she hisses at me so i am keeping away.

im just trying to find out when would be the best time to take her and the kittens to the vets to get them all checked out.

I'd ring the vets, see what they say.

Your very lucky she never went mental being an un-spayed female. It makes them go loopy after a few years.

I would ring the vets and ask them when they think it would be best to bring mum and babies in for a quick check up. She will need to be seen too as she could have caught a disease like feline Leukemia from the male. They should also be able to advise you regarding neutering and vaccinations.

Please also be aware she should be eating more and potentially different food to help her produce enough milk to feed her babies.

I am however amazed you never noticed she was in heat in the 2 years you have had her. They often make a horrendous amount of noise and will pace a lot trying to get out.

I'm another one who is surprised nobody noticed. Our cats first season she drove me bloody nuts with the noise and shoving her arse in my face, couldn't wait until she got neutered which was booked already

Get them all fixed so it doesn't happen again. Good luck.

i only moved in a month and half ago and he would not notice of the place was on fire, he just thought she was a bit restless.

we just called his vets and they said bring them in a few days time so they all can be checked over but as long as they are feeding from mum and seam fine they should be ok. but have got an appointment for 4pm today to get them checked.

She is on kitten food for the extra nutrients (they said it was best when he went before).

Are you going to keep them all as indoor cats? Are you on a main road?

Photos please.

chattyemma · 14/09/2018 14:40

Sorry no updates.

Took them to the vets yesterday and mum and kittens got a clean bill of heath. Mum has been booked in to be fixed in 2 months time.

Sorry about no pics every time I get my phone near her with them she hisses at me and don’t want to upset her

Awwww. Bless them. What colour are they.
They must be so adorable.

Rebecca36 · 14/09/2018 22:46

Aw bless! We took in a very tiny kitten, not much more than a kitten, many years ago and she had three kittens. We kept all three, two have died and we have one and the mother. Mum is approximately eighteen years old and her daughter is 17.

I didn't take them to the vet for a few weeks. When they were eating solids their mum took them into the garden through the cat flap. We had mum neutered and vaccinated and then had the kids vaccinated and checked over, neutered at six months.

They are so gorgeous, congratulations. I feel quite broody! Never regretted keeping mum and her three daughters, it's unfortunate that two have gone to the big cattery in the sky but they did become ill. We're lucky to still have mum and one 'kitten' I suppose as they are elderly now but as gorgeous as ever. Mum never grew very big, her daughters were bigger but she was always the boss.

Yay kittens! Our current younger cats were underage when we inherited them, mum had been chased/killed off by a fox. They were five weeks and so so tiny... not had newborns kittens since I was in primary school.

Unfortunately (ish) we did the sensible thing and got these two spayed as soon as. Was watching the ginger one today all stretched out and thinking "I remember you being four inches long..."

Waaa I miss having kittens!
