Introducing dog and new kittens

Does anyone have any tips, nuggets of wisdom, words of advice or general hints that worked for you when introducing new kittens into a home with a dog. The dog is 4 and our old cat was pts a few months ago aged 18 and we’ve decided it’s time to have cats in our life again. The dog was used to having a cat around but as she was an old lady she kept herself to herself and tended to live in different rooms to the dog as she wasn’t overly impressed by him so they didn’t interact very much. We’re hoping to get a pair of rescue kittens this time so they’re company for each other but want to give the relationship between them the best start possible.

I'd say from current experience that you need to be prepared for the dog NOT accepting new kittens just because he's used to a cat about the place.

Our dog is absolutely comfortable with our long-term resident cats (sniffs noses and bums, licks heads while they wince) but is outraged at our new one and barks like a mad thing if she ventures out of one specific room. We're working on it, slowly.

Be really careful with kittens, as they're fragile and skitter around temptingly. You'll need to be very sure of your dog before they come too close to each other.

We set up kitten camp in a downstairs room (office type), put a coffee table in the doorway for quick escape route for kittens. Ddog could have knocked past it but didn't try!!
Took kittens a full week to brave the passage and go into the kitchen.
Where in full view of adult rottweiler they proceeded to eat her food while she stood and watched!! Fast forward to ddog age 9 and dcats are 6.

Aprilshowersnowastorm love the Wendy house!
Thanks for the advice, I think I need to think carefully about which rooms we use and be prepared to take it very slowly. Our old cat used to eat the dogs food too if she was hungry while he just waited. Very cheeky of her but the dog would tolerate it and just sit patiently

It only took a month until ddog allowed dkitten to share her dog bed in the living room....
We have got 3 more ddogs since (2 as puppies and other as an adult) and all get along.
