Insurance advice

We've had our cat for 4 years and about 2 years ago she started having problems with her eye. We took her to the vet and he said we should just monitor it as nothing was needed to be done. It cost £50 and insurance excess is £85 so we didn't claim. But now we have had to take her back a few times with the same issue. It's like hay fever and we take her at least once or twice a year for drops. I asked about claiming it back now and they said no as it's an existing condition. ARGH! Has anyone had this issue and did they appeal? We're with PetPlan. Thank you.

Were you with Petplan when you first took her?

FrankieChips · 22/08/2018 13:01

@PinkSparklyPussyCat (love the name). Yes we were. We have been with them all this time and have never claimed. Regretting that now!

That's really strange, I can understand it being an existing condition if you hadn't been with them but just because you didn't claim? I'd definitely try and appeal

You need to look at the detail of your policy nowadays not all PetPlan policies are lifetime policies. I believe petplan bronze limits you to claiming for only 12 months after the condition starts, this is common to many, many cheaper policies.

Vinorosso74 · 22/08/2018 15:01

That is odd. Is it Petplan or the vet saying it is a pre-existing condition?
Do check your policy is a lifetime cover. We had a 12 month cover per condition for our old girl (switched when she was too old for lifetime cover). We had some complicated claims £60 here and there etc which all added up but the vet practise filled out the complicated stuff and they paid out no bother.

@Vinorosso74, do Petplan stop offering lifetime cover when they get to a certain age?

FrankieChips · 22/08/2018 15:25

Thanks everyone! I'll try again and see what they say. She is 14 now. A little old lady :)

13-14 is still young! My boy is 13 and when he's running from one end of the garden to the other (he nearly went head first into the shed last week!) and skidding on the laminate I forget how old he is.

Vinorosso74 · 22/08/2018 15:50

Pink if you already have lifetime cover it's fine so Harry will be ok! It's just new customers if your cat is over a certain age.
We switched from a different company when she was 12 as their premiums went crazy high for low cover but due to her age couldn't get lifetime cover with Petplan. We'd never claimed until 6 months after switching and claimed the full £3k in year 1 then again in year 2. I won't mention the figure on top of that we weren't covered for!
Our young lad has Petplan lifetime.

Thank goodness for that, I was about to into remortgaging the house!
