Food to put weight on boy-cat?

This is the boy DCat. He is as lovely as he looks, but he is a bit underweight. No health concerns at all, regular vet checkups and he is happy in himself, but he is quite a big boned chap and very active outside, and though he moans for food will eat half a bowl and then bugger off, leaving his more petite (and less picky) partner in crime to finish it off.

We currently feed 3-4 pouches of Purina Gourmet Perle a day with a sprinkling of dry food for variety as previously they've got bored with various brands and noses have been turned up, but I think it would be better to get something higher calorie for them both as they could both stand to put weight on.

Does anyone have any recommendations for similar food in gravy (they will picky jelly off and leave meat so no jelly) that they might actually eat that has a good whack of calories around the same price point?

Kitten food is often recommended for helping to gain weight although there's not that much choice in kitten foods. Would they eat more dry food?

I was feeding fatty royal canin kitten food to try ab get weight on her.

I can't help re food, but just wanted to say how gorgeous he is. Is he hugging his leg? Beautiful boy.

Actually, maybe your vet could recommend something?

Is he actually underweight?

Lots of cats slim down over summer and fatten up over winter (less active, more time in the house to eat)

Science Plan has helped my cat gain weight and then maintain his ideal weight. It's expensive but a pack lasts ages!

@Want2beme he is hugging his tail - well, he was fighting it really. He is an absolute sweetheart as well as being freakily smart - he also huffs in annoyance - proper huffs like a human would do! I love him so much. Smile

@serbska a little bit, though vet didn't seem concerned, though I think in the week since the flavours have been rotated he's lost a little bit of weight. He is such a picky little fecker!

Thanks for the food recommendations all - I'll have a look at the royal canin kitten and the science plan stuff. Any others please feel free to sling my way also, more chance of them getting food they'll eat!

Royal canin do a high calorie senior dry food. I got some off amazon but pets at home also sell it. Also purina pro plan convalescence mousse is high calorie which I got from pets at home.

I’ve used both of these short term but my cat is hyperthyroid and needed to gain quite a bit of weight whilst the vet was trying to stabilise the treatment as they were just losing weight so rapidly.

My cat was underweight but no other health problems apart from throwing up for weeks on end. Vet couldn't find anything wrong. I changed the food to Lily's Kitchen and she's put on 600g and the vet is very pleased. Her coat's improved and she doesn't throw up any more. Which would, now I think on, have helped with the weight issue!

Therefore this may not be useful to you Grin
