3 month old kitten - back garden

Grateful for a little advice. I have a 3 month old rescue kitten. She has been with me since she was 6 weeks, she has had all her shots - but isn’t spayed yet.

She is desperate to get outside and managed to get into the back garden this afternoon. I let her sniff around a little then brought her back in.

My vet has advised paying and micro chipping at 6 months. I wouldn’t let her outside un supervised but would it be ok to let her out in the garden with me?

Mine did this but I ignored it and let her out after she was spayed and 6mths old.

Omg shes tiny would a harness even fit her? So cute.

She is adorable!! We have two rescue kittens, though came to us at 4 months and now almost 5 months. I had a chat with the vet that we registered with and he advised they need to be over 2.5kg. Boy kitten is almost 3 kg so he is booked in for the end of next week, girl kitten is a petite little thing and only just over 2kg. Vet said best to let her grow more as the anesthetic can be more of a problem if under the 2.5 advisory limit.

Thanks Lila. She is under 1.5kg so that may be why vet wants to wait.

She is eating well and I have her on a good quality diet so hopefully she will catch up

OMG she is soooooooooo cute, far too young to be out and about OP. Vets will spay at around 2kg onwards just keep an eye on her weight and once she hits 2kg or over they should be happy to spay.

You can get microchipping done before spaying - its a quick process which doesn't need an anaesthetic. I got mine chipped while she was going through her injections but still too small to be spayed, and it gave me peace of mind in case she did a runner. My top tip when you are starting to let kittens out is to get them used to the sound of a dreamie packet being rustled beforehand. I now have a year-old cat that will come in, at speed, whenever I rustle the packet!!

Too young. I would keep her in until she is spayed.

Yes to this.

I always called my cat and then gave him a treat so that now he associates hearing his name when he is outside with running home for a treat.

My cat was equally desperate to get out so was spayed at 17 weeks, which is the earliest my vet would do it. She was also quite small.
