weed killer and cats - advice

OK the cats are about to try a battering ram if I don't let them out. Caught our gardeners this morning spraying weed killer (out of back pack not hand held rubbish so the powerful stuff) over all the weeds on the patio and flower beds and was not too pleased. He went from saying its totally safe for cats, to its safe after 2 hours to not being sure. He said once dry it's fine for cats but I am not sure as it has dried onto weeds so surely can stil be licked off? The cats are definitely going to sit on the patio where they have sprayed. This was 5-6 hours ago.

Any suggestions? Shall I hose the area down in hope it washes it away or will this just make the dried weed killer wet again and more likely to be licked?

Totally confused. Any advice pease? I don't know what weed killer it was and neither did they!

Let it dry and tell them no more weedkillers. We use salt on paving and it's very effective.

Ok do you think that Sunday morning it wil be ok to let cats out even if it gets all wet again? Thanks.

It should be ok now. If they don't know what it is have they got the coshh sheet?

Not sure what that is? But even without knowing this I doubt it - I text head chap and got very garbled response back that basically said ( I think) cats will smell it and stay awy from it and don't let him out until today.

It isn['t safe at all, even when dry it gets on their paws and they lick it off. I never find it necessary to use weedkiller.

Our excessively houseproud ndn uses jeyes over his block paving to kill weeds (and all insects probably grr) and our cat will walk over it, it honks.

Your gardeners aren't coming up in a good light.

It supposed to be ok once it's dried, however we used some once (not something I like to do and try to keep away from it) and Ern got out while it was still wet.

We ended up washing his paws like mad. However internet research Hmm says the recommendation for it being 'safe' once it's dreid pertaines more to the possibility of it being transferred on paws to elsewhere ...this was from a manufacturer so not sure whether to take with a pinch of salt.

I was more bothered about Ern eating the grass after it had been weedkillered as he eats grass a lot. I couldn't find any info about that, so the area we did is covered for the time being
