ModKat litter boxes. Anyone have one?

I have lined space for two litter boxes but could just fit two of these in the space. Are they worth the money?

I'm hoping her new ladyship will share with Snorg but need plan b in case she won't!

My god they are pricey!

EachandEveryone · 18/08/2018 10:35

Yes we love ours. Im in a flat and it fits in the corner nicely. It does take a bit more effort for them though and their first choice will always be the hooded one but the do use the ModKat. It comes with a liner and then you have to buy them as you need them. Its a doddle to clean. What colour are you thinking of? I got mine from zooplus as they are cheaper but they dont have the funky colours.

EachandEveryone · 18/08/2018 10:37

Ps i wouldnt buy two at the same time incase they dont like them! Can you put one in your bedroom? Thats what ive ended up having to do.

dementedpixie · 18/08/2018 10:48

Could this be a cheaper alternative?

Snorg already has the petmate top entry box from zoo plus. It's brilliant but huge. The gap the trays fit into is 65cm wide. So can't get two in. I prefer top entry as if cuts down on tracking. And also stops them bolting out mid poo if they get startled! ModKat boxes are square so could fit two in diagonally.

I've got one. Love it. So easy to scoop from and even easier to empty.

I like that you replace the bag every few months even though it means it's an oncoming expense, because in the past I've felt like the box themselves become smelly regardless of how much you clean whereas that doesn't happen here.

Only criticism is that one of mine sometimes manages to wee over the top of the bag in to the bottom of the tray but he seems to have a super feline ability of weeing really high up, he can't squat. He's the reason we need covered tray 🙄

Emma765 · 18/08/2018 11:39

*ongoing expense

Toddlerteaplease · 18/08/2018 11:41

I presume you can use them without the liners. I do t use a liner in my current box.

OP posts:
EachandEveryone · 18/08/2018 13:25

It comes with one anyway. I only change the liners twice a year I don’t know how long the last for.

Have you got a box in a different room as well? I don’t know if mine would use them if they were next to each other. Oh, they take up a lot of litter but I’m not sure if I’m putting too much in.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/08/2018 15:35

I don't really want one in another room. The only place it could go is the spare room. My house is tiny and I can here them using it downstairs in the kitchen as it is. Skit would be worse if next to my bedroom.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/08/2018 15:42

Probably takes less litter than the one I've already got.

EachandEveryone · 18/08/2018 17:13

Are you using worlds best? Ive just changed to wood pellets to see how they get on.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/08/2018 18:27

No, I use intersand classic and I love it. Only needs changing once a month.

OP posts:
AnnaMagnani · 18/08/2018 21:18

We have 3 and love them. Work really well with Worlds Best. You just effectively have a deep litter system, skip out daily and then chuck the lot when the level is low or the whole thing gets yukky.

I got the first after getting fed up with one kitten who was a determined litter spreader and frequent misser of the side of the tray. Solved the problem instantly. Got the second straight away.

I was nervous about how old cat would get on with hopping in and out but she got it straight away. She does sometimes have a fight with the liner though so we have to just straighten it back out again.

So much better than normal litter trays and not quite as vile looking to have around the house.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/08/2018 00:51

I don't think a top entry tray is going to work. I took the normal tray away and she peed on the door mat. Completely my fault so will go and invest in a hooded tray tomorrow.

EachandEveryone · 19/08/2018 01:09

I got the cheapest hooded one from PAH its quite compact.

She had to put one of mine ontop of the tray so she realised what it was.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/08/2018 12:12

I'll leave the hood off for a couple of days. Then put it back on. Gutted, I love the top entry tray!

OP posts:
EachandEveryone · 19/08/2018 14:04

How do you know they won’t use it?

Toddlerteaplease · 19/08/2018 15:50

Because she didn't realise what it was and peed on the door mat. As soon as I put the small tray back she used it.

OP posts:
EachandEveryone · 19/08/2018 16:04

Oh no!! Did u have some old litter in it. Mine copy each other so I suppose it’s easier

AnnaMagnani · 19/08/2018 16:13

I put mine in the exact same place as the old trays and dumped the cats in it so they knew there was litter inside. Also used same litter. They all got it, even old lady who we were a bit dubious about.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/08/2018 18:23

Yes. Did both of those things!

AnnaMagnani · 19/08/2018 19:39

Oh dear. There's no pleasing some cats.
